If you get lots of questions right on the first section, you will get a harder second section, but access to higher scores.
Combines Reading and Writing: Reading and Writing and Language will be combined into one Reading and Writing section.
Uses short passages: Concepts will now be tested with one short passage per question instead of having several questions attached to only a handful of long passages. This will allow the test to feature a wider range of genres and levels of text difficulty and will allow students to get to the information they need in a passage more quickly.
Allows calculators on all math questions: The Digital SAT will not have a “no calculator” section, and the testing app will feature a built-in Desmos graphing calculator. Students can still bring in their own approved calculators, though, if they choose to.
Is shorter: The test will be shorter.
Is administered in testing centers: Although the name of the test makes it sound like students will be able to take it at home, the Digital SAT can only be taken in official testing centers.

Maximizing Your Practice Test Experience

To get the most out of your practice tests, it’s essential to approach them strategically. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your practice sessions:

Simulate Testing Conditions

Try to duplicate the testing conditions as closely as possible. One of the most important things you can do is to take the practice test under realistic conditions. Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed, set a timer, and avoid using any unauthorized materials. This will help you get a feel for the actual test-day experience and identify any areas where you need to improve your time management skills. It's important to utilize them effectively. Since the SAT is now fully digital, most students should take their practice tests in the Bluebook app. Why? If, for example, you spend just two extra minutes on a section, this could raise your score by hundreds of points, since the extra time allowed you to answer more questions than you would've been able to within the actual time limit. The digital SAT is shorter than older versions of the exam but it still lasts over two hours on an early Saturday morning. Preparing for the SAT is like training for a marathon: you need to ensure you have enough stamina to make it through the test.

Work on Pacing

Pay attention to the pacing. Both sections on the SAT-(1) Reading and Writing and (2) Math-have two modules designed with multistage adaptive testing. In other words, each module on the test has the same number of questions, but the mix of questions in the second module will be either slightly more difficult or slightly less difficult than the questions in the first module. The practice tests use the same multistage adaptive model, so you can prepare for this change in timing and learn to pace yourself.

Important: While taking practice tests in Bluebook, every student is welcome to toggle on and experiment with certain built-in accommodations (text-to-speech, screen readers, etc.). However, practicing with accommodations does NOT mean you are approved to take an actual assessment with those accommodations. If you need to test with accommodations, please ask your school’s SSD coordinator to submit a request through SSD Online at least seven weeks before test day.

Review Your Scores and Answers

Study with your practice scores. Once you’ve completed your practice test, go to My Practice to view your scores. Practice Specific Questions: From your My Practice dashboard or your Score Details page, you’ll see a button for Practice Specific Questions. Based on your performance on that practice test, My Practice creates this custom set of questions to help you review any skills that might need a boost. Review: Click Score Details to see every question on the test, the answer you submitted, and the correct answer for that question. Click Review next to your answer to read through the question and answer explanation. Keep track of the questions you missed and pay attention to any patterns you notice about the question content and the skills involved. Printable Practice Tests

While the digital SAT is administered on Bluebook, some students may benefit from using printable practice tests. The College Board offers several official, printable practice tests that model the new digital SAT format.

Older Practice Tests

There are 10 available practice tests for the 2016 paper SAT, which used a different format than the Digital SAT but many of the same question types. Note that some of these official practice SATs still include an essay. Despite their out-of-date structure, these tests can be useful for your studying. All the tests for the years not listed are repeats of those above, including the 2011-12, 2010-11, 2009-10, 2008-09, 2006-07, and 2005-06 practice tests. As a result, these very old SAT practice tests are a hidden gold mine that few students know of. You can skip the analogies questions on Reading. You can skip the comparison questions on Math. This question type presents two boxes and asks you to decide whether A or B is greater. There is no Writing section on these tests.
