Eligibility Criteria for the SchoolHouse Connection Scholarship
To be eligible for the SchoolHouse Connection Youth Scholarship, applicants must meet specific criteria:

- Residency: Applicants must currently reside in the United States. Undocumented applicants are eligible.
- Age: Applicants must have been born on or after June 2, 2005.
- College Enrollment: Applicants must be starting college (a four-year college or university, community college, or trade school) for the first time in the 2027-2028 academic year. This includes high school juniors, high school seniors planning to take a gap year, or students earning a GED who plan to start college in 2027-2028. The program begins working with students one year before they begin college to provide more intensive college readiness support. This does not include dual-enrollment courses.
- Experience with Homelessness: Applicants must have experienced homelessness within the last six years.

The SchoolHouse Connection scholarship application consists of several key components designed to provide a comprehensive picture of the applicant's experiences, aspirations, and needs:
Eligibility, Demographic, and Education Questions: These questions gather essential information to determine eligibility and provide context for the applicant's background and academic history. The demographic information is important, as the phone number provided will be used to contact selected awardees. If the applicant cannot be reached, the point of contact listed in the application will be contacted.
Full High School Transcript (Unofficial or Official): The transcript provides a record of the applicant's academic performance. An unofficial transcript is acceptable, and applicants are encouraged to request one from their school counselor.
Essay: The essay is a crucial part of the application, allowing applicants to share their personal story and articulate their goals. The essay should be no more than 1,000 words and should address the following topics:

- Support from Other SchoolHouse Connection Scholars: The program fosters a strong sense of community among scholars, providing a supportive network of peers who understand the challenges they face.
- Opportunities to Engage in State and Federal Policy Advocacy: Scholars have the chance to use their voices to advocate for policies that support students experiencing homelessness.
