Seidman College of Business: Cultivating Business Talent in West Michigan
The Seidman College of Business, an integral part of Grand Valley State University (GVSU), stands as a dynamic institution dedicated to fostering business acumen and driving sustainable growth within West Michigan and the broader Great Lakes region. With a strong emphasis on community engagement, scholarly pursuits, innovative learning methodologies, and a nurturing environment, Seidman distinguishes itself as a prominent center for business education.
History and Evolution
The Seidman College of Business traces its origins back to 1970 when it was established as the School of Business and Economics. A pivotal moment arrived in 1973 with a generous contribution from the Seidman Family Foundation, leading to the formation of the F.E. Seidman Graduate College. Further expansion occurred in 1979 when the undergraduate and graduate programs were consolidated into a single entity, the Seidman College. Following a university restructuring, the college was renamed the Seidman School of Business in 1983.
The college derives its name from Francis E. Seidman, a key founder of the BDO Seidman accounting firm and the father of L. William Seidman, a prominent businessman who later served as Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Seidman legacy is deeply intertwined with the college's commitment to excellence and its focus on preparing future business leaders.
