Understanding SJSU MPH Tuition Fees and Related Costs

These fees include mandatory SJSU fees. After completing at least 19 units, Regular Session MLIS students can opt to retain their designation or switch to Special Session, potentially to access more electives. However, changing to Special Session means foregoing eligibility for the CSU or CalVet fee waiver program and state financial aid. Note that Regular Session Teacher Librarian Credential-Only students are not eligible for designation switches.
Special Session Fees
Special Session fees apply to all students, except those residing in the Regular Session catchment area for the MLIS program. These fees are calculated based on the cost of running the course and providing the necessary technology, as the State of California does not fund these classes. As of Fall 2024, Special Session fees are due one week after the semester start date. If a student enrolls in a class one week or later after the start date, fees are due within three days. It's important to note that these dates are based on the semester start date, not the individual class start date, especially for shorter 1 and 2-unit courses.
For the MLIS, MARA (Master of Archives and Records Administration), Advanced Certificate, and Post-Master’s Certificate programs, Special Session fees are \$568 per unit through Summer 2026. Starting in Fall 2026 (AY 2026 - 2027), these fees will increase to \$596 per unit. The MS in Informatics program and MS IDT (Instructional Design and Technology) program have Special Session fees of \$622 per unit.

Payment Information and Deadlines
SJSU does not send bills, so students must proactively check their MySJSU account (accessible via one.sjsu.edu) to view the amount of fees owed. This can be found under Self Service/Campus Finances > Student Center > Finances > Account Inquiry > Charges Due. Due dates are typically posted within 24 hours after class registration. Students are responsible for making payments by the stated deadline. Failure to pay fees by the due date or making a partial payment may result in classes being dropped. However, the university does not automatically drop classes after the census date.
Payment Options
SJSU offers various payment options, including:
- Online Payment: Through the MySJSU portal.
- International Wire Transfer: No fee is charged by the University or per transfer for international wire transfers.

- Changing your unit load from 6.0 units to 6.1 or more will result in additional fees. If adding classes during the Late Registration period changes your unit load from 6.0 units to 6.1 or less, additional tuition fees will be due.

Financial Aid and Fee Deferrals
Financial Aid

Financial aid recipients must enroll at least half-time to qualify for payment from most campus-awarded funds, with payments prorated for full-time, three-quarter-time, half-time, and less-than-half-time enrollment in some cases.
Tuition Fee Deferrals
To receive a tuition fee deferral, your financial aid file must be complete, and all requested documents submitted. Check your “To Do” list at MySJSU for requested documents. Once all documents are submitted, a fee deferral will be assigned to hold your classes and delay the payment of registration tuition fees while your financial aid process is completed. It is your responsibility to submit all requested documents prior to the scheduled tuition fee payment deadline to prevent enrollment cancellation.
Financial Aid fee deferrals are temporary and issued once all requested financial aid documents are submitted.

Third-Party Payments
If your tuition fees are to be paid by a third party (i.e., employer, government agency, college savings plan, or foreign embassy), documents must be on file before your payment deadline authorizing the university to bill the agency for your fees.
Restrictions
Federal regulations prevent the university from deducting parking permit charges from financial aid.
Refunds
A 100% refund of basic and/or non-resident fees will be given to students who drop all classes or withdraw from the university no later than one day before classes begin. Refundable fees include basic registration fees, non-resident fees, course fees, and the miscellaneous SJSU fees. Students who drop units resulting in a lower fee structure and/or mandatory fee obligation will be entitled to a refund of applicable tuition and mandatory fees up to the end of the designated SJSU Late Registration drop period. There are no refunds for individual course drops after this date.
When students who are receiving financial aid withdraw, the unearned portion of federal and state funds must be returned to the appropriate fund, and financial aid eligibility will be recalculated according to a federal formula.
Parking permits can be returned for a prorated refund (which adjusts weekly) minus a \$10 administrative fee.

Other Fees and Expenses
Students are charged campus fees in addition to tuition and systemwide fees. For students pursuing the MBA or MS Accountancy degrees, the graduate business professional fee is paid on a per-unit basis in addition to applicable systemwide tuition and campus fees for specific graduate business programs authorized to assess the fee.

Residency
If you attended high school in California for at least three full years and graduated or earned an equivalent, you may be eligible for resident tuition. Students must file an affidavit with SJSU stating that they have filed an application with INS to legalize their immigration status or will do so as soon as they are eligible.
Selective Service Requirement
The federal Military Selective Service Act requires most males residing in the United States to present themselves for registration with the Selective Service System within thirty days of their eighteenth birthday. Most males between the ages of 18 and 25 must be registered. Males born after December 31, 1959, may be required to submit a statement of compliance with the Act and regulations in order to receive any grant, loan, or work assistance under specified provisions of existing federal law. Applicants for financial aid can also request that information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be used to register them with the Selective Service.
Short Term Loans
Short Term loans are available through the Bursar’s Office to assist students with expenses over and above tuition, fees, and housing.
Programs Offered
