Sofia Vassilieva is an American actress renowned for her versatile performances in film and television. Born to Russian immigrant parents, Dr. Vladimir Vassiliev, a physicist, and Dr. Larissa Vassilieva, a biologist, Sofia was immersed in a culturally rich environment from a young age. Her parents’ dedication to science and education instilled in her a passion for learning and the arts. Sofia Vladimirovna Vassilieva was born on October 22, 1992, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Early Life and Education
Sofia's commitment to education is evident in her academic achievements. She graduated from Columbia University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree, majoring in Linguistics with honors and a special concentration in Business Management. Sofia attended Concord High School in Santa Monica, CA. She also completed the Acting Shakespeare course from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London in the summer of 2013.
At just three years old, Sofia began speaking French and reading in Russian and English, showcasing her linguistic prowess early on. Sofia also has a strong aptitude for languages. Sofia’s entry into the entertainment industry began at the age of seven when she was discovered at the International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) in New York, where she won the title of Child Actress and first runner-up Child Model of the Year 2000. Within a year, she started getting acting assignments. She first worked in an episode of a CBS television series, ‘The Agency’ and followed it up by working in a television film, ‘The Brady Bunch in the White House’ and another project, ‘Inhabited’.

Vassilieva made her television debut at age eight, portraying Elena, the granddaughter of a retired Russian general, in two episodes of the CBS spy thriller series The Agency in 2001. She played Cindy Brady in The Brady Bunch in the White House, opposite Shelley Long and Gary Cole in 2002.
Breakthrough Roles
In 2003, Sofia gained prominence by portraying the beloved children’s book character Eloise in the made-for-television movies “Eloise at the Plaza” and “Eloise at Christmastime,” starring alongside Julie Andrews. For her performance as a fun loving six year old girl, she earned the nomination for Best Leading Young Actress in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special at the 2004 ‘Young Artist Awards’.
Vassilieva achieved her breakthrough with the role of Ariel DuBois in the NBC supernatural drama Medium, appearing in all 130 episodes from 2005 to 2011. "My Sister's Keeper"
Her role in the 2009 film “My Sister’s Keeper” as Kate Fitzgerald, a teenage cancer patient, was particularly challenging. The movie, ‘My Sister's Keeper’ was another big role for her where she worked along with the likes of Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, and Abigail Breslin. In the movie, which is an adaptation of Jodi Picoult's novel of the same name, she played the role of a teenage cancer patient, ‘Kate Fitzgerald’. Sofia shaved her head and eyebrows for the role, demonstrating her dedication to authenticity. To make her character look more authentic, she went to the extent of shaving her head and eyebrows. Her excellent depiction not only won her ‘Young Artist Award’ for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film in 2010, but also made her an honorary ambassador for ‘Stand Up to Cancer’, a charitable programme of Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).

In recent years, Sofia has continued to expand her repertoire with roles in various television series and films. In 2022, she starred as the titular Lissa in the independent film Lissa's Trip, a psychedelic comedy-drama loosely inspired by The Odyssey, following a struggling actress's hallucinatory journey across Los Angeles after accidentally ingesting LSD en route to a crucial audition.
In the successive years, from 2015 onwards, Sofia Vassilieva appeared in a single or a couple of episodes of a number of television series like ‘Stalker’, ‘Lucifer’, ‘Notorious’, ‘Training Day’, ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Timeless’, ‘S.W.A.T.’ and ‘Black Lightning’.
