Solano County Office of Education Programs: Supporting Students and the Community
The Solano County Office of Education (SCOE) plays a vital role in supporting the educational needs of students and the broader community within Solano County. Through a diverse range of programs and services, SCOE aims to foster positive academic and social-emotional outcomes for students, provide resources to school districts, and offer enriching learning opportunities for adults.
Student Programs and Services: Nurturing Success
The Student Programs and Services Department at SCOE is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to students, focusing on their academic and social-emotional well-being. This department extends its services to students within SCOE's alternative school settings, as well as those attending schools in their respective districts of residence. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by certain student populations, the department also offers county-wide coordination for foster and homeless youth, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and support to thrive. Furthermore, the department provides professional development opportunities for educators, equipping them with effective and respectful strategies for working with all students.
SCOE provides educational options for students in grades 7-12, with a focus on helping them succeed academically. The curriculum is standards-based, ensuring that students are learning the essential skills and knowledge they need to progress. Recognizing that some students may have fallen behind, SCOE also offers opportunities for credit recovery, allowing them to get back on track and achieve their academic goals.
Support for Foster and Homeless Youth
SCOE understands the unique challenges faced by foster and homeless youth and is committed to providing them with the support they need to succeed in school. SCOE provides support and resources to Solano County school districts, to implement McKinney-Vento and foster youth supports. This includes ensuring that these students have access to transportation, school supplies, and other essential resources. SCOE also works to connect foster and homeless youth with mentors and other supportive adults who can provide guidance and encouragement.
Environmental Education Programs: Cultivating Stewardship
SCOE is committed to promoting environmental awareness and stewardship among students of all ages. Through a variety of engaging programs, SCOE helps students learn about local water resources, conservation, and the importance of protecting the environment.

One of the ways SCOE promotes environmental education is through partnerships with organizations like the Solano Resource Conservation District (Solano RCD). Solano RCD offers a variety of educational programs for students in grades K-12, including class presentations, field trips to the Dunnell Nature Center, and teacher training workshops. Schedule a class presentation focused on our local water resources (K-12), test your tap lessons (5-8), attend a field trip at the Dunnell Nature Center (2-5), or attend a teacher training. More information and video can be found at solanorcd.org.
SCOE also partners with performing arts groups like ZunZun to bring environmental education to life. ZunZun is a performing arts group that celebrates the environments and cultures of the Americas through music. ZunZun is very active in environmental education. Their assemblies teach students about watershed awareness and water conservation in a fun and liveway way. Assemblies are suited for students Grades K-6 and are available in English or Spanish.
Rock Steady Juggling provides innovative and high-quality educational entertainment. Shows feature comedy, juggling, magic and audience participation. Recycling and water agencies provide funding to create fun and informative school shows.
The Department of Water Resources offers free educational materials to educators.
Yolo-Solano CTC Induction Program: Supporting Teacher Development
Recognizing the critical role of teachers in student success, SCOE actively supports teacher development through the Yolo-Solano CTC Induction Program. Currently, Yolo-Solano CTC Induction Program is a regional consortium comprised of ten (10) TK-12 educational institutions, a number of private and charter schools, and university partners located in Yolo and Solano counties, serving over 250 teachers. This regional consortium provides comprehensive support and mentorship to new teachers, helping them to develop the skills and knowledge they need to be effective in the classroom. Note that an intern teacher who is employed at YCOE pays a lower tuition rate. The YCOE Staff Coordinator, Teacher Credentialing Support, works with YCOE induction candidates, interns from any CTC-approved intern programs, and their support providers to facilitate program completion.
