SOLIDWORKS Student Version: Features and Access Options

SOLIDWORKS is a widely used software across many educational institutions, empowering students in engineering, design, and related fields. The SOLIDWORKS Education Edition is a comprehensive suite of tools designed to introduce middle school, high school, and college students to the world of CAD and the capabilities of SOLIDWORKS. It provides access to the same 3D development tools used by professionals worldwide, fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and innovation.

SOLIDWORKS Education Edition: An Overview

The SOLIDWORKS Education Edition is more than just a CAD teaching tool; it's a complete engineering suite. It provides powerful, engaging, hands-on software for students to understand the real-world mechanics of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEM/STEAM). With SOLIDWORKS Education Edition, educators and students have access to the same 3D development tools used by countless engineering and design professionals around the world, so they can focus on what’s really important-fostering new ideas, solving problems, teamwork, and innovation.

Key Features of SOLIDWORKS Education Edition

The Education Edition includes over 12 products, allowing students to conceptualize, create, validate, communicate, manage, and transform ideas into great designs. SOLIDWORKS Education Edition delivers 3D design solutions to help unleash students’ creativity for inspired design.

Accessing SOLIDWORKS as a Student

SOLIDWORKS offers various access options for students, catering to different needs and learning environments. The primary methods for students to get the software are the Student Design Kit (SDK) and the Student Engineering Kit (SEK).

Student Design Kit (SDK)

The SDK is a downloadable version of SOLIDWORKS software. This option provides students with the core SOLIDWORKS functionality for their design projects.

Student Engineering Kit (SEK)

The SEK includes SOLIDWORKS and most of the other software modules and features included in the school’s Education Edition. For schools and universities with a class size of 60 students or more, a SOLIDWORKS Education license can qualify students for a Premium license, also known as the Student Engineering Kit (SEK).

MySolidWorks

There are 3 levels of access to MySolidWorks: MySolidWorks, MySolidWorks Standard, and MySolidWorks Professional. The general MySolidWorks access is FREE to all, regardless of EDU or Subscription Service. MySolidWorks Standard is also FREE to schools that have the SOLIDWORKS Education Edition and the license is on Active Subscription. If your students are using the Student Engineering Kit (SEK) they will also have access to MySolidWorks Standard for FREE by using their SEK serial number.
