Sprout Social, a leading provider of cloud-based social media management software, has partnered with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to establish the Sprout Social Scholarship Fund. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for Black/African American students pursuing careers in computer science and software engineering.

The Sprout Social UNCF Scholarship Program represents a significant investment in the future of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. By providing financial assistance and career opportunities to talented Black/African American students, Sprout Social and UNCF are working to address the underrepresentation of minorities in the technology industry.
Scholarship Details and Benefits
The Sprout Social UNCF Scholarship Program offers several benefits to selected recipients:
- Financial Assistance: Each year, eight Black/African American college seniors will be awarded an $11,000 merit-based scholarship. This financial assistance can help alleviate outstanding financial burdens, allowing students to focus on completing their post-secondary education. Scholarship recipients can use their $11,000 award to pay off their college debt, relieving them of financial burdens and allowing them to focus on their future.
- Career Opportunities: Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to apply and interview for a full-time role at Sprout Social, potentially starting in the summer.
- Engineering Rotational Program: Students interested in a career opportunity with Sprout Social can apply to be a part of the engineering rotational program for new graduates. This program embeds engineers in cross-functional Agile development teams, allowing them to work across multiple engineering disciplines such as back-end, front-end, QA, or mobile. Engineers also get exposed to a variety of technologies, including Java, Python, MySQL, Cassandra, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, NSQ, Docker, Kubernetes, React, and Redux. They work in tandem with product designers and product managers to drive product initiatives to successful outcomes. As an intern, you will be working alongside professionals in cross-functional engineering teams. These teams function in an Agile development environment giving you invaluable experience.
- Access to Experts: The small teams of about 7 to 10 professionals are experts at providing support to new entrants.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
To be eligible for the Sprout Social UNCF Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Black/African American college senior
- Demonstrate strong leadership abilities
- Show interest in computer science or software engineering
- Be enrolled full-time as seniors for the academic year at any accredited 4-year institution
- Priority consideration is given to applicants attending Howard University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Georgia Institute of Technology.

- Submit official transcript: To be eligible for this program, you need to submit an official academic transcript that is recent.
- Show your leadership skills: Showcase your leadership skills in a single-page resume that also covers other soft skills.
- Prove your programming abilities: The award requires that candidates display competency in different programming languages.
- Have your résumé reviewed: Read your résumé multiple times before you submit it.

UNCF's Role in Minority Education
UNCF (United Negro College Fund) is the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization. To serve youth, the community and the nation, UNCF supports students’ education and development through scholarships and other programs, strengthens its 37 member colleges and universities, and advocates for the importance of minority education and college readiness. UNCF institutions and other historically black colleges and universities are highly effective, awarding nearly 20 percent of African American baccalaureate degrees. UNCF awards more than $100 million in scholarships annually and administers more than 400 programs, including scholarship, internship and fellowship, mentoring, summer enrichment, and curriculum and faculty development programs.
