Stanford Seed Internship Program: An Overview

The Stanford Seed Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for students to gain high-level work experience, make a social impact, and work closely with talented entrepreneurs in Africa and South Asia. This program is designed for undergraduate (current sophomores and above), co-term, and graduate students in all departments and majors, including graduating students.

Internship Details

The Stanford Seed program provides 8-10 week summer internships with diverse project opportunities across numerous sectors. These opportunities are suitable for students in education, the social sciences, humanities, STEM fields, business, and more. Internships take place in-country at the company’s international work site location.

Stipend Information

The program offers competitive stipends. The undergraduate stipend rate is competitive with other Stanford-sponsored undergraduate summer internship programs of a similar length. The 2026 stipend amount is $8,000. The GSB stipend rate is competitive with other Stanford GSB-sponsored summer internship programs of similar length. The non-GSB graduate student stipend rate is competitive with other summer internship programs of similar length. The 2025 stipend amount is $12,375.

Program Format and COVID-19 Update

The format of the internship is determined by Stanford travel policy. The program hopes, but can’t guarantee, on-site internships in some or all locations. Internships will otherwise be offered 100% remotely.

Travel update: Per current Stanford travel policy, graduate students are permitted to travel to all Seed internship locations this summer. For undergraduates, travel is now permitted in South Africa, Botswana, and Senegal, and approval is expected for Ghana, India and Kenya (pending formal University approval in April).

  • Aspire: This six-month online business growth program equips entrepreneurs with the core skills, tools, and strategies to thrive. It helps small, growing companies formalize their business structures and professionalize their operations to drive growth. The program is offered in partnership with the African Management Institute.
