Understanding STCC Tuition Costs and Programs

Navigating the financial aspects of higher education can be a daunting task. This article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the tuition costs and available programs at Southeastern Technical College (STCC) and South Texas College (STC), offering clarity for prospective students and their families.

Tuition and Fees at STCC

The amount of tuition assessed each term at STCC varies based on program of study, residency, and the number of credit hours enrolled. Tuition is based on the number of credit hours scheduled up to a maximum equal to the cost of 15 credit hours per semester. Full-time enrollment for Federal Student Aid (Pell Grant, etc.) and insurance verification will remain at 12 credit hours.

Standard Tuition and Residency

Standard tuition cost is $107 per credit hour for in-state residents. Out-of-state students pay tuition twice the amount charged for Georgia residents. As of winter 2020 and spring 2021, the College no longer offers in-state tuition rates to out-of-state students for any courses. Students with reciprocal residency status will pay $37.50 per credit for all courses.

Effective January 1, 2012, all students applying for in-state tuition must provide validation of lawful presence in the United States.

Mandatory Fees

All tuition and fees are payable at registration for each term. Tuition and fees are assessed in accordance with policies set forth by the State Board for Technical and Adult Education and are subject to change without notice.

The General Education Fee replaces several other fees that were in existence in prior years. The Capital Improvement Fee will enable STCC to make improvements to our campus which will benefit students.

Student Health Insurance is required for all on-campus students enrolled in 9 or more credits and in a certificate, diploma or degree-granting program. Additional fees for uniforms are required in most School of Health & Patient Simulation departments and in the School of Nursing. Clinical Lab Science students are requested to join the professional organization. Some departments have additional required costs.

Payment Options and Service Fees

Tuition and fees may be paid by cash, check, money order, or credit card and may be paid online through MySTC, by telephone, or in person. Checks should be made payable to Southeastern Technical College and may not be post-dated.

Students paying for tuition, fees, and related charges by credit/debit card will be assessed a non-refundable 2.65% service fee with a $1 minimum fee. Students paying with an electronic check are charged a service fee of $0.75 per transaction. Students Signing up for our Nelnet Payment Plan by credit and debit card will be assessed a non-refundable 2.5% service fee. Although students paying with credit cards will be charged a service fee, STCC offers many fee-free alternatives. These payment options include cash, checks, and money orders.

Consequences of Unpaid Balances

A student with a balance due to the college for any reason is subject to being dropped from classes or having a hold placed on his/her student account.

Tuition Waivers

The State of Georgia Post-Secondary Tuition Waiver Program exempts or waives payment of tuition and fees (and where applicable, on-campus housing) for students attending a technical college within the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).

Cost and Financial Aid at South Texas College (STC)

South Texas College (STC) prioritizes quality instruction while maintaining low tuition rates. South Texas College's tuition is $5,220 for in-state and $7,620 for out-of-state students. Compared with the national average cost of in-state tuition of $12,436, South Texas College is cheaper. For students coming from out of state, the tuition is cheaper than the national average cost of out-of-state tuition of $29,815. These figures include both tuition and fees, also referred to as the sticker price.

Tuition and fees are per semester and are subject to change upon approval of the Board of Trustees of South Texas College and upon changes in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board requirements or other regulatory entity requirements.

Additional Costs to Consider

Fees differ by institution and may fund library services, student gym facilities, student centers, technology resources and campus health centers. As you’re comparing costs of different institutions, also consider the total cost and the net price. The total cost is the sticker price, plus the cost of food and housing, books and supplies, and transportation and personal expenses. Books and Supplies cost approximately $1,600 per year.

Understanding Net Price

Your net price is a college’s cost of attendance minus the grants and scholarships you receive. The net price you pay for a particular college is specific to you because it’s based on your personal circumstances and the college’s financial aid policies. Use the college’s Net Price calculator for the most accurate estimate of your net price.

Financial Aid Options at STC

Financial aid can include grants, loans, scholarships and work-study jobs. Financial aid packages vary depending on your financial need. Most colleges determine financial need based on your FAFSA. An average aid package awarded is $3,812.

One of the first steps to take to ensure your college expenses are covered is to submit a Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Our Student Financial Services Department can help guide you through the whole process.

Scholarships and grants don’t need to be paid back. Loans must be paid back.

Other Financial Assistance Programs

If you need to pay your college costs but are running low on time, you may be able to get an emergency loan. Scholarships are another great solution for covering your collegiate costs. Former & active members of the armed forces, and their spouses or dependents may be eligible for education benefits depending on their specific military branch and the benefits they qualify for. Work Study Programs are designed to provide you with part-time employment and help you contribute to your education costs.
