Exploring the Student Angler Federation: Fostering Education and a Passion for Fishing
The Student Angler Federation (SAF), a branch of The Bass Federation (TBF), stands as a prominent organization dedicated to fostering a love for fishing among students while emphasizing the importance of education. Founded in 2007, the SAF has played a pivotal role in the high school fishing movement, aiming to get young people outdoors and highlight the connection between academic subjects and angling.
The Genesis of the Student Angler Federation
Recognizing the potential for engaging young people with the outdoors, The Bass Federation (TBF) established the Student Angler Federation (SAF). The SAF distinguishes itself by integrating educational components into its fishing programs.
Connecting Education and Angling
A primary goal of the SAF is to demonstrate the practical applications of academic subjects like math, science, and language arts in the context of fishing. By illustrating these connections, the SAF aims to make education more relevant and engaging for students. The SAF strives to show students the ever-increasing career and educational opportunities through fishing.
Creating School Fishing Clubs
The SAF encourages the formation of fishing clubs and outdoor activities within schools, providing students with opportunities to connect with their peers, learn new skills, and develop a lifelong passion for fishing. Forming school fishing clubs gets students in schools across the country excited about fishing.

The objective of the SAF is to relate subject matter and basic principles of education to how anglers use them out on the water every day. Also, the SAF is aimed at getting students off the couch and back into the great outdoors by promoting the formation of fishing clubs and outdoor activities within the school. This is an educational program designed to introduce students to fishing and to show students the ever increasing career and educational opportunities through fishing. Our program also adds purpose to their education by giving them real life examples how education items like math, science, and language arts are used by anglers out on the water every day.
