Clarenceville School District: Empowering Students Through the Student Connect Program and Beyond

The Clarenceville School District, encompassing sections of Livonia, Farmington Hills, and Redford at the southern edge of Oakland County, is committed to creating a learning environment where "All Means All." Established in 1837, this district of Wayne and Oakland Counties serves approximately 1,818 students across one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools.

A Focus on 21st-Century Learning

The district's vision is to cultivate a learning culture where all students are empowered to face the challenges of the 21st century. This vision is supported by an enthusiastic faculty, dedicated staff, committed families, and a proud community, all fostering a safe and caring environment that fosters deep and enduring personal relationships. The district emphasizes global competencies, including Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Character, Collaboration, and Citizenship, to promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, as well as physical, social, and emotional wellness.

Student Connect Program: Bridging the Digital Divide

Clarenceville School District recognizes the importance of technology in modern education. As part of its commitment to providing equitable access to resources, the district has implemented the Student Connect program. The program's purpose is to ensure that every secondary student in grades 6-12 receives a Chromebook for their educational use. This initiative eliminates the cost barrier for families and provides students with the necessary tools to succeed in a digital learning environment.

Chromebook Distribution and Requirements

The district has been awarded a grant to bring a Chromebook to all secondary 6-12 Clarenceville students. These Chromebooks will need to be returned at the end of the year and will be reissued in the fall. There is no cost to families to receive the Chromebook. Parents are required to complete a form prior to Chromebook distribution agreeing to District technology policies and practices. We will be distributing after the first week of school.

To receive a Chromebook, students and parents must fulfill specific requirements:

  1. Return any devices from last year: Ensure that all previously issued Chromebooks are returned to the school.
  2. Replacement Cost for Lost Chromebooks: If a Chromebook has been lost, the parent/guardian is responsible for paying $225 to cover the replacement cost. Payment plans can be arranged by contacting the child’s school if the full amount cannot be paid upfront. An initial payment must be received before the Chromebook is issued.
  3. Chromebook Agreement Form: Once the device has been returned or replaced, the parent/guardian must complete the Chromebook Agreement Form, which can be found in the ParentPortal under Back To School Paperwork. A separate form must be completed for each child to receive a Chromebook.

It is important to note that all three steps must be completed before a Chromebook can be issued to a student.

Academics and Accreditation

Clarenceville School District is committed to providing a high-quality education to all students. All four of its buildings have achieved NCA/AdvancED Accreditation, with the district earning NCA/AdvancED District Accreditation in 2017. This accreditation demonstrates the district's commitment to continuous improvement and meeting rigorous standards for educational excellence.

Special Education Considerations for Out-of-County Applicants

For parents of students who do NOT reside in Oakland County: Pursuant to state law, in order to enroll a 105c schools of choice student who is eligible for special education programs and services, (this includes speech/language as well as LD, CI, EI etc.) the 105c schools of choice district (Clarenceville) must have a written agreement with the resident district (the school district where you live) on the responsibility for the payment of the added costs of special education. Without such an agreement, the 105c district (Clarenceville) cannot enroll a 105c student who is eligible for special education programs and services--MCL 388.1705c(19).

Building Partnerships with the Community

Clarenceville School District recognizes the importance of strong community partnerships in enhancing the educational experience for students. The district actively seeks to build relationships with local businesses and organizations. These partnerships can provide numerous benefits, including positive publicity for businesses, opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, and potential future employment prospects for students.

School Safety and Procedures

The Clarenceville School District prioritizes the safety and well-being of its students. The district has implemented specific procedures for student drop-off and pick-up to ensure a safe and efficient process.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

When dropping off or picking up your students, the district asks that you always:

  • Use the drop-off/pick-up loop on the southern-most end of the building (click here for map).
  • Pull forward along the sidewalk as far as you can to keep traffic from backing up onto Middlebelt Rd.
  • Do NOT use the parking lot… it is not safe to do so.

By following these procedures, parents and guardians can help to keep everyone safe and ensure a smooth flow of traffic during drop-off and pick-up times.
