Student Connect Oak Park Program: Building a Strong Educational Community

Transition to Middle School: District 97 Middle School Connection

Recognizing that transitioning from elementary to middle school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, District 97 offers a special program for incoming sixth-graders. "District 97 Middle School Connection" is a three-day program designed to help ease the transition from elementary to middle school. Students are not only changing school buildings but also undergoing significant developmental changes. The program aims to welcome children to District 97 Middle School Connection and help them start their middle school journey with confidence and enthusiasm.

Academic Assessments

As required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRFHS) administers several assessments. On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, OPRFHS will administer the PreACT 9 Secure to freshmen, the PreACT Secure to sophomores, and the School Day ACT with Writing to juniors. These assessments will be administered in an online format.

Comprehensive Music Education

As part of a comprehensive music education program, all students receive instruction in band, orchestra, keyboard lab, guitar, and chorus. Credentialed music teachers offer progressive and enriching learning experiences.

Rogelio Leal, the General Maintenance Worker, was recognized as the Classified Employee of the Month for February. “He is sunshine with a tool belt. Each day, he strives to do everything he can to fix a problem or support a fellow team member. There is no work order he won't attempt to resolve. He steps in to help his team in any capacity needed and approaches every task with kindness and authenticity.
