Navigating Student Success: A Comparison of Student and Parent Portals
The educational landscape is continuously evolving, with technology playing an increasingly vital role in connecting students, parents, and schools. Student and parent portals have emerged as essential tools for fostering communication, monitoring academic progress, and streamlining administrative tasks. This article delves into the functionalities of student and parent portals, using Aeries as a case study, to understand their significance in today's education system.
Understanding the Aeries Parent Portal
The Aeries Parent Portal is designed to provide parents with a comprehensive view of their child's academic journey. Managed by the school or district, it offers a secure platform to monitor various aspects of a student's progress.
Benefits of Creating an Aeries Parent Portal Account
Creating an Aeries Parent Portal account offers numerous advantages. It allows parents to stay informed about their student's progress at school, with the ability to monitor attendance, grades, report cards, and standardized test scores throughout the school year. Depending on the features enabled by the school, parents may also be able to update contact information and view important documents.
How to Create an Aeries Parent Portal Account
To create an Aeries Parent Portal account, it is recommended to contact your child’s school for guidance. Due to the confidential nature of student information, schools have specific safeguards in place to ensure that only individuals with educational rights to a child’s information can create an account. It is strongly advised not to share account information outside of the child’s family. When creating a new Aeries Parent Portal account, a VPC (Verification Pass Code) will be required, which can only be obtained from the student’s school.
Accessing the Aeries Portal App
The Aeries Portal App is available for both Android and Apple users on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, respectively. However, it is important to note that a student’s school district can enable or disable access to the portal. The app typically offers a mobile-friendly interface, with an option to toggle to the Full Portal for a more comprehensive view.

Managing Multiple Students
All students attending schools within the same district can be linked to a single parent/guardian account. Once logged in, parents can select the desired student from a dropdown menu or choose from the student cards displayed. However, if children attend schools in different school districts, a separate portal account will be needed for each district.
Resetting Your Aeries Portal Account Password
If you need to reset your Aeries Portal account password, please contact your child’s school for assistance.
Key Features of the Aeries Parent Portal
The Aeries Parent Portal offers a range of features designed to keep parents informed and involved in their child's education.
Data Confirmation/Re-registration
Data Confirmation is a feature that allows parents and guardians to update student demographic, contact, and medical information. It also provides access to school policies, documents, and authorizations posted by the school. To access the registration page, the student must be active or pre-enrolled in the school. If the school has indicated that this process should be completed in Aeries, parents can log in to the Aeries Parent Portal from a browser, where a message will be displayed until the Data Confirmation process is complete. The Data Confirmation form can also be found in the Navigation tree under Student Info. For any questions or troubleshooting, parents are advised to contact their child’s school directly.
Grade Alerts
If enabled by the school, parents can set up alerts for their child's grades. This option can be found under Parent Notification Preferences in the drop-down menu accessed by clicking the Aeries Portal account username in the upper right-hand corner of the portal when accessing it through a browser.

Student Portals: Empowering Student Success
While parent portals focus on providing information and facilitating communication between parents and schools, student portals are designed to empower students to take ownership of their education. These portals offer a range of tools and resources to support student learning, track progress, and manage academic tasks.
The Synergy Between Student and Parent Portals
Student and parent portals work in synergy to create a connected and supportive learning environment. By providing access to grades, attendance records, and other important information, these portals enable students and parents to stay informed and engaged in the educational process. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of shared responsibility for student success.

It is the responsibility of families and students to ensure that their student meal accounts are paid in full. Seattle Public Schools reserves the right to collect on outstanding debt incurred by students and families.
Culinary Services offers a variety of convenient ways to pay for school meals. Checks and cash are accepted by the school’s lunchroom manager either as a pre-paid deposit to a student’s account or for purchasing individual meals, milk, or other à la carte items. MySchoolBucks requires the Student’s ID number to create an account. The fee will not be applied multiple times within the same transaction when a parent is paying for multiple students. Prior to creating an account you must have the Access ID and Access Password for your child(ren). Please note, every child has their own Access ID and Access Password. If you have more than one child you will need to obtain the Access ID and Access Password for each of them. Please contact your child's/children's school if you need assistance in obtaining the information.
