Suffolk University Scholarships for International Students

Merit-Based Scholarships for International Students

All applicants, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students, are automatically considered for merit-based awards at the time of admission. There is no separate application required to be considered for a merit award. Merit-based assistance is awarded to students entering in the fall and spring semesters. No merit funds are available for students who begin in the summer term. The Suffolk University International (Merit-Based) Scholarship is specifically intended to support undergraduate international students with high academic standing.

International Students Merit Scholarship

Available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, this scholarship provides partial funding through awards of varied amounts based on academic performance.

Graduate Progression Scholarship

Graduate students may also apply for the Graduate Progression Scholarship, which grants $5,000 annually. Full time students who meet all progression requirements and earn a 3.5 GPA during the Suffolk INTO graduate pathway program will receive a $5000 annual scholarship upon enrollment in a Suffolk graduate degree program.

While not specifically for international students, this merit-based scholarship is open to all incoming freshmen and amounts to full tuition - an extremely significant award.

Scholarships for Alumni

Scholarship funding is available to Suffolk undergraduate alumni who enroll in a College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) graduate program. Awards range from $5,000 to $10,000 per academic year. Recipients are not eligible to receive any other institutional scholarship. Recipients of outside funding (i.e. Employer Tuition Remission, Yellow Ribbon, VA, etc.) may be ineligible for this award.

Scholarship funding is also available to Suffolk undergraduate alumni who enroll in a Sawyer Business School (SBS) graduate program. Awards range from $6,000 to $12,500 per academic year. Recipients are not eligible to receive any other institutional scholarship, and those with outside funding may be ineligible.

Sawyer Business School Graduate Scholarships

Awards will be made to one or more deserving graduate students of the Sawyer Business School with demonstrated financial need.

Merit funding is awarded to full-time SBS Graduate students. Funding comprises the SBS Graduate Scholarship and SBS Graduate Employment. Fellowship amounts range from $17,600 - $27,700 per academic year. Funding is renewable provided the recipient meets all eligibility requirements and maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Merit funding is also awarded to SBS Graduate students, with award amounts ranging from $6,000 to $8,000 per academic year.

College of Arts & Sciences Graduate Scholarships

Merit funding is awarded to CAS Graduate students. Full-time awards range from $4,000 to $18,000 per year, while part-time awards range from $5,000 to $7,000 per year.

Two awards will be made each academic year to new incoming Master of Arts in Interior Architecture students at NESAD within the College of Arts & Sciences.

EMBA Program Scholarships

Merit funding is awarded to students enrolled in the EMBA program. Award amounts range from $15,000 to $45,000.

Commonwealth Suffolk Fellowship Program

Active Massachusetts state employees with at least two (2) years of full-time service in a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Department who are applying to Suffolk University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program may also be eligible to apply for the Commonwealth Suffolk Fellowship Program each year February-May. A separate application is required. Fellowship recipients will receive a full tuition scholarship. Two awards will be made each academic year to new incoming Master of Arts in Interior Architecture students at NESAD within the College of Arts & Sciences.

J.W.S. Scholarship

Two awards will be made each academic year to new incoming Master of Arts in Interior Architecture students at NESAD within the College of Arts & Sciences.

Geraldine F. Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a Suffolk University student enrolled in the Sawyer Business School whose life has been impacted by breast cancer.

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time MBA student with financial need.

Partner Scholarship Program (PSP)

Suffolk University created its Partner Scholarship Program (PSP) to help employers empower their employees to challenge themselves and advance their expertise at the graduate level. Our PSP offers employees and members of partner organizations a 30% tuition reduction (effective fall 2024) on most of our master's degrees, dual degrees, graduate certificate programs and academic microcredentials. There are a few Program Exceptions & Exclusions - The Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice is discounted at 10%. In addition, several advanced degree programs offered through the College of Arts & Sciences are excluded from the PSP discount: the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, the M.S. in Mental Health Counseling, and the M.S.

Suffolk University Black Alumni Network (SUBAN) Scholarship

The Suffolk University Black Alumni Network (SUBAN) Scholarship is funded by the generous donations of alumni and friends of the University with the goal of reducing the financial burden on talented Suffolk University students. The SUBAN Scholarship supports, each year, at least one student enrolled in each of the schools of the University (College of Arts & Sciences, Sawyer Business School, and Suffolk University Law School). Based on available funding and student eligibility, it is possible awards will be renewed for selected recipients in future years.

  • Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship: The Goldwater Scholarship is used to fund undergraduate study in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Each scholar receives an annual amount of up to $7,500. A sophomore who receives a Goldwater Scholarship can expect to receive support for a maximum of two years/four semesters.
  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship: The Gilman scholarship can be used to increase opportunities for underrepresented student populations intern or study abroad. Financial need is based on the study abroad expenses provided by the applicant, the Gilman certifying’s advisor, and the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Boren Fellowship: Boren Fellows have the option to apply for up to $12,000 for domestic summer intensive language courses. If requested, the maximum total combined domestic and overseas award amount is $30,000.
  • Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program: colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad in the summer studying one of 14 critical languages. Funding varies by country, reflecting the cost of living and length of the academic year. Applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of application. Permanent residents are not eligible.
  • Fulbright UK Summer Institute: The Fulbright UK Summer Institute is a three-to-four week program for US undergraduate students to explore the culture, heritage, and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university.
  • Gates Cambridge Scholarship: The Gates Cambridge Scholarship offers the opportunity to pursue full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Offers 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK.
  • Harry S. Truman Scholarship: Student must be a junior pursuing a full-time Bachelor’s Degree, have a B average in the top 25% of their class, be a US citizen or national, and have selected a major that will permit admission to a graduate program leading to a career in government or public service, and have a demonstrated interest in such a career.
  • Marshall Scholarships: Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Candidates can apply for a one-year or two-year Marshall Scholarship. Applicants must be a US citizen with a four-year undergraduate degree from a non-U.K. institution, with at least a 3.7 GPA.
  • George J. Mitchell Scholarship: The George J. Mitchell Scholars may study or conduct research at the graduate level at eleven institutions of higher learning on Ireland. The scholarship provides full tuition, housing (on-campus, when available), and a monthly living stipend (currently $1250 USD) for up to one year (12 months) of post-graduate academic study in Ireland.
  • Peace Corps: The Peace Corps provides volunteers with the opportunity to serve abroad in countries all over the world. To date over 240,000 Americans have served through the Peace Corps.

Citizens and Permanent Residents may file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) any time after January 1 of the year of enrollment.

Suffolk University policy does not allow for grant and scholarship funding in excess of direct costs at Suffolk University.
