Board of Education Meetings
Summit Public Schools transitioned to BoardDocs, an online system for managing meeting records, in May 2022. Unless otherwise specified, board meetings take place at Summit Tamalpais, located at 3020 Hilltop Mall Rd, San Pablo, CA 94806, in Contra Costa County. These meetings adhere to the Ralph M. Transportation Department
The Sumner County Schools Transportation Department is responsible for operating and maintaining a fleet of over 220 buses. These buses cover more than 13,000 miles daily, accumulating over 2.4 million miles annually, across 771 routes each day. Approximately 60% of Sumner County Schools’ students utilize the bus service at some point.

TEACH Sumner
TEACH Sumner is a collaborative initiative designed to address the demand for qualified educators in the region. This program provides a licensure pathway for individuals who aspire to become school teachers. Participants are required to obtain full-time, job-embedded teaching positions within Sumner County Schools. This allows them to gain practical classroom experience while completing their certification requirements.
2024-2025 District Goals
In September 2024, Superintendent Scott Hough presented the 2024-2025 District Goals to the Board of Education. The fourth goal introduced the initiative to undergo strategic planning this school year. In the first year of engaging in strategic planning, Summit Public Schools will establish a clear vision and mission that aligns with our community's needs and values. Key stakeholders including, students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members will actively participate in identifying priorities, which will lead to the creation of focused goals and a completed first-year action plan.
School Board Election 2025
An election for three open seats on the Summit School District Board of Education is scheduled for November 4, 2025. Five candidates are vying for the available positions: Tom Day, Kimberly Dyer, Whitney Horner, Jacqueline Zheleznyak, and Jenniffer González. Current board members Chris Guarino, Johanna Kugler, and Lisa Webster will be leaving their seats.
Candidates' Profiles and Priorities
Tom Day: A Breckenridge resident and realtor in Summit since 1989, Day holds a degree in electrical engineering from Montana State University. He also has been a ski instructor locally “for even longer” with a particular involvement with youth. He expressed concern over the defeat of the school district’s $195 million bond referendum because it did not include any funding for teachers or curriculum. Kimberly Dyer: As a retired school counselor, Dyer emphasizes her ability to listen, reflect, and resolve conflicts. She has supported students, staff, and families throughout her career. “Specifically, I have been a youth advocate for over 30 years, both professionally and as a parent volunteer in schools through (parent teacher organizations) advisory councils and parent information networks,” she said.

Whitney Horner: The community nutrition manager at Summit County Public Health and a resident of Summit County for 16 years, Horner's priorities, if elected, will be focused on literacy, safety and valuing good humans.
Jacqueline Zheleznyak: Zheleznyak moved to Dillon in 2023 after spending over 20 years in Denver. With a background in public affairs leadership, she believes she brings a unique perspective to the challenges faced by the Summit School District. Her professional experience includes public policy, health care and education. “I believe the current financial challenges our district needs to address will only become more serve with the realities of the close to $800 million dollar Colorado state budget deficit,” she stated in a press release.
Jenniffer González: A Dillon Valley resident, González describes herself as “qualified” for the role of school board member and “particularly passionate” about education. “I will ensure transparency to our parents,” she said in a recent press release. González was born and raised in Panama, where her mother lives as a retired teacher. She became a U.S. citizen in 2010. González works for Summit County Youth and Family Services currently and previously worked for Summit Community Care Clinic for 15 years. She has served on several board positions, including Family Intercultural Resources Center and Women of the Summit.
