Credit Hour System
The unit of credit is the semester hour, which involves one hour of theory or from two to four hours of practice per week for one semester of 15 weeks. Figures following the credit hours indicate the contact hours per week devoted to theory and practice, respectively. Theory includes recitations and lectures; practice includes work done in a clinical setting, laboratory, shop, drawing room, field or other.

Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to familiarize themselves thoroughly with the regulations of the University, to accept responsibilities for course requirements for their degrees, and to make inquiries in case of doubt. It shall not be the University's responsibility should complications arise because of failure to follow regulations and requirements. Regulations will not be waived nor exceptions to requirements made on a plea of ignorance.

Each student is held responsible for knowing degree requirements, for enrolling in courses that fit into degree programs and for taking courses in the proper sequence to ensure orderly progression of work. The student must seek advice about degree requirements and other University policies when necessary. The student is held responsible for knowing and abiding by University regulations regarding the standard of work required to continue in the University, as well as those dealing with academic integrity, scholastic probation, suspension, and dismissal.
University personnel may assist students in progressing toward the degree that they are seeking. However, the final and ultimate responsibility for understanding and following the degree requirements rests with the students themselves.
University Regulations and Conduct
The University reserves the right to require a student to withdraw at any time, as well as the right to impose probation on any student whose conduct is unsatisfactory. An admission on the basis of false statements or documents is void upon discovery of the fraud, and the student is not entitled to any credit for work that the student may have done at the University. Upon dismissal or suspension from the University for cause, there will be no refund of tuition and fees.
The policies, procedures, and regulations governing the conduct of students at East Texas A&M University are outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Disciplinary matters are handled by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and the Dean of Students Office.
