Temple University Libraries: Resources for Research and Academic Success
Temple University Libraries are a vital component of the university, offering a wide array of resources and services to support the academic and research endeavors of students, faculty, and community members. Ranking among the top university research libraries in North America and holding membership in the prestigious Association of Research Libraries, Temple’s libraries are indispensable partners in study, teaching, and research. Together, they hold more than four million bound volume equivalents and care for thousands of special collections of rare books and primary archival sources.
Comprehensive Collections and Services
Temple University Libraries bring together collections, people, and services to facilitate teaching, learning, and research success. With world-class collections and services, the libraries provide a full range of support for faculty, students, and community members. This includes access to a vast collection of physical and digital resources, expert assistance from librarians and staff, and a network of services designed to assist users during all phases of the research process, including data sharing and publication. One of the libraries is also located at Ambler Campus.
TUScholarShare: Promoting and Archiving Scholarly Works
TUScholarShare is a Temple Libraries service designed to support the needs of the Temple University community around sharing, promoting, and archiving the wide range of scholarly works created in the course of research and teaching. Depositing into TUScholarShare is a free and easy way to improve your work's visibility, reach, and impact. This service offers several key benefits:
- Enhanced discoverability: By depositing your work in TUScholarShare, you can get your research out to more readers.
- Long-term access: This ensures that people can read your work for years to come.
- Better citation and attribution: TUScholarShare helps ensure that you get credit for your work. All items uploaded to TUScholarShare receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), a persistent URL that facilitates citation and attribution.
- Support Open Access and Open Science: Items deposited into TUScholarShare are accessible to all.
It may even be possible to share your already published work, even if you are not the copyright holder. Most publishers allow a pre-print or post-print version of a published article to be deposited into your institution's scholarly repository.
Open Access Publishing Support
Temple University Libraries actively support open access publishing, which makes research freely available to the public. Many open access journals are free to read because they charge authors a fee, often called an article processing charge or APC. To help Temple authors with these costs, the Libraries have established several partnerships:

- Temple authors who publish in a BioMed Central journal will receive a 5% discount on APCs.
- Temple authors who publish in a Cambridge University Press Journal are eligible to have their APC waived.
- Temple authors who publish in SpringerOpen journals will receive a 5% discount on APCs.
In collaboration with Temple’s consortial partner NERL (North East Research Libraries), the Library signed a transformative agreement with Springer Nature. Under this agreement, corresponding Temple authors are eligible to publish their articles open access with fees covered in hybrid journals across the Springer Nature portfolio.
Temple University has also created an institutional membership with BMJ Case Reports so that our researchers can submit new cases to the journal free of charge. BMJ Case Reports offers a high volume of cases in all disciplines so that healthcare professionals, researchers and others can easily find clinically important information on common and rare conditions.
