TMCC Foundation Scholarship: A Comprehensive Guide to Requirements and Opportunities
One part of college that every student has in common is their responsibility to pay tuition. Using every resource to continue their education and earn their desired degree takes patience, time, and support. Scholarships offer freedom from relying on wages, meaning you can afford schooling without feeling burnt out. Nobody should suffer from that stress when pursuing a successful career. The TMCC Foundation annually offers a wide variety of scholarships to students, including both general and program-specific support. This article provides a detailed overview of the TMCC Foundation Scholarship, its requirements, and the numerous opportunities it offers to students at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC).
The Importance of Scholarships
The TMCC Foundation Scholarship is designed to award scholastic merit and assist with financial need by providing scholarships on an academic year cycle. Education is a cornerstone of personal and professional growth, but the rising costs of tuition, books, and other educational materials can be a significant barrier for many students. Scholarships provide a vital lifeline, enabling students to focus on their studies without the constant worry of financial strain. For those who have recently arrived and may be facing hardships, this opportunity brings funds to support your education, so you may concentrate your work on your classes instead of paying for them.
TMCC Foundation Scholarship Overview
The Truckee Meadows Community College Foundation was established in 1982 to provide TMCC with an avenue to pursue private philanthropic support for TMCC students and programs. The Foundation partners with the College to bridge the gap between public funding and College needs, as determined by TMCC's leadership and Strategic Master Plan. Since its inception in 1990, the TMCC Foundation has awarded millions in scholarship support to deserving students throughout the College’s programs. Annually, the TMCC Foundation fuels student success and academic excellence by directly supporting programs, scholarships, capital projects, instructional equipment, professional development, emergency funding and other critical needs and opportunities as they arise. The TMCC Foundation Scholarship is an umbrella term used for all of the scholarships managed by the TMCC Foundation.

Generally, only the Fall portion of your scholarship will be disbursed. However, if you're graduating after the Fall semester, you may submit a written appeal to request full disbursement in the Fall. Funds are first applied to your tuition and fees. Additional Opportunities and Requirements
- FAFSA: While it’s not required for other TMCC Foundation scholarships, we strongly encourage you to complete the FAFSA to see if you qualify for additional aid, like Pell Grants. There are some scholarships made available to students in the form of grants when they complete the FAFSA.
- TMCC Foundation Scholarship Reception: It’s simple! Just attend the mandatory TMCC Foundation Scholarship Reception and complete your post-acceptance questions. The Legacy Scholarship Reception is an opportunity for students to meet their donors, and sometimes they are business owners. Sala Dentistry is the perfect example; they choose their scholarship recipients, sit with them at a table, and become potential employers for dental hygienists or assistants. You are networking right there. That’s your prospective future job after graduation. If you’re unable to attend due to a work or school conflict, you must provide a copy of your schedule to request an excused absence. If you need child care assistance, we provide free child care for children 3 years and older who are potty trained at our E.L.
- Post-Acceptance Questions: Attend this reception and answer these post-acceptance questions to keep your scholarship.

The Impact of Scholarships
There’s no sweeter sound than those of students’ footsteps in our hallways. Scholarships can be a critical factor in degree completion for many students. The additional financial support was a game-changer. “When I was notified about the scholarship, I sat down to reconfigure when I would graduate…. Making college accessible and affordable for our students is what we’re all about at TMCC. The harmony between the philanthropic support we receive and the College’s financial needs reaches a crescendo when we’re able to uplift our students and programs.
Jeremy Smith, who received a scholarship from the Bender Family Endowment that helped to fund his pursuit of a Bachelor of Applied Science in Logistics, said that the scholarship has inspired him to not only complete his degree, but to give back to others in need. “The feeling of someone believing in what I am trying to accomplish and giving generously to help me reach my goals is a critical part of doing my very best,” he said. “I am very grateful that there are people in the community that see how they can affect the lives of students, and choose to give generously.
A Student's Story
Two years ago, Denise Kreeck was diagnosed with dyslexia. After receiving the diagnosis, her vision for the future changed drastically. “I didn’t think I could succeed in higher education,” she said. “I could only afford to take two classes each semester, and graduation seemed so far away,” she said. Yet, Kreek persisted. She utilized the support and services provided by the Disability Resource Center, which helped her to maintain a strong GPA. Then, Kreeck applied for a TMCC Foundation Scholarship and received an AT&T Nevada Scholarship.

They recognize the potential that we all have within us, and your success becomes its own reward.
