During the 2021-2022 school year, Trumbull Public Schools took a proactive step in shaping the future of its students by organizing a dedicated committee. This committee, comprised of teachers, administrators, staff, and community members, embarked on a year-long process to define the "vision of the graduate." The goal was to develop a plan that outlines the skills and dispositions that graduates should possess to be well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
The committee's work resulted in a comprehensive plan that identifies key skills and dispositions deemed essential for future success. This initiative reflects a commitment to providing students with a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional academic subjects.
Piloting Key Skills and Dispositions
Following the development of the "vision of the graduate" plan, Trumbull Public Schools moved into the implementation phase. In the 2022-2023 school year, teachers began piloting the rubric for the skill of Communication and the reflection form for the disposition of a Growth Mindset in grades Kindergarten through 12.
This pilot program allows educators to assess the effectiveness of the developed rubrics and reflection forms in real-world classroom settings. By focusing on Communication skills, students will learn to effectively express their ideas, listen attentively to others, and collaborate successfully in group settings. The emphasis on a Growth Mindset encourages students to embrace challenges, view failures as learning opportunities, and persevere in the face of setbacks.
