The MBS program is a special master's degree program that requires students to have already taken the undergraduate-level premedical science courses before matriculation. For college graduates who have not completed all of their undergraduate prerequisites, Tufts offers a Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program. This program is based in the School of Arts and Sciences on Tufts Medford Campus. Students take an individualized program of study alongside Tufts Undergraduate students.The MBS program, including the didactic courses and the thesis can be completed in 12 months, although the great majority of students take an additional one or two semesters following their didactic work to complete the thesis and finish in December or May. The fraction of students who elect to complete the entire program within a year is typically 10-20%, while 80-90% elect to take additional time.

Typically, students will apply to medical school the summer after they have completed the MBS coursework. All students are required to do either a literature or lab-based thesis. For students who enroll in the dual MBS-MPH degree, the capstone MPH project will fulfill the MBS thesis requirement.You will be taking the same coursework, but you will only be in class with other MBS students. Tufts Public Health requires three letters of recommendation for a complete application. All Letters of Recommendation should be submitted to SOPHAS electronically. Cost of attendance budgets are intended to cover only the expenses of the student and only the period of time the student is enrolled in an academic program. Students in academic programs or years of study that are less than 12 months in duration should have means to pay for their living expenses while they are not enrolled. Generally speaking, students should plan to have three months worth of living expenses available in order to secure an apartment and purchase books/supplies. First-time financial aid applicants and first year students must complete an entrance interview before loan proceeds can be disbursed to their account. The entrance interview is mandatory for all students and should be completed online during the summer before the student matriculates.Financial aid for most programs is typically disbursed in two equal payments during the fall and spring semesters. Tufts School of Medicine has been the most expensive private medical school nationwide since 2001 except for one year, when Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia charged $268 more for non-resident tuition and fees in academic year 2008-09, according to the report.

Still, Tufts' tuition weighs in at several thousands of dollars more than other Boston-area private medical schools, like Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine, which cost $45,833 and $49,221 per year, respectively.

Tufts is taking several steps to reduce its tuition. Fennelly said that starting two years ago the school has increased funding for scholarships eight fold.
