Advanced Periodontology & Prosthodontics Equipment Fee: This fee is charged for fall and spring semesters only for undergraduate students taking more than 12 hours or graduate students residing in on-campus housing.

NBME Exam Fee: This covers the cost of exams ordered from the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the CBSE for use in the preclinical curriculum.

Scholarships

Incoming students are considered for recruitment scholarships based on their full admissions application and interviews. Beginning with the Fall 2026 entering cohort, students are encouraged to submit the Supplemental Need-Based Scholarship Application alongside the Secondary Application. This optional scholarship application will be used for consideration of need-based scholarships. These data will not be used for admissions consideration.

UAB also offers a range of scholarship and financial aid opportunities designed to help students manage debt. Institutional scholarships include the Blue Cross Scholars Program, the Sara Crews Finley, MD, Leadership Scholarship, and the Dean’s Primary Care Scholars Scholarship, an award that offers increasing stipends each year to students committed to careers in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, or medicine-pediatrics.

Federal Aid

To be considered for federal financial aid, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year at www.studentaid.gov. Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans - students who submit a FAFSA are offered a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. The UAB Office of Student Financial Aid uses the Cost of Attendance to determine the maximum amount of aid a student is eligible to receive each academic year. Beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year, students will be eligible for up to $50,000 in Direct Unsubsidized Loans annually. The Graduate PLUS Loan Program will be discontinued as of July 1, 2026, which is the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year.

Private Loans

Residency for Tuition Purposes

There are a number of factors that may be considered in determining in-state residency for tuition purposes, and you must be able to clearly prove your residency. Alabama, like other states, restricts resident tuition to persons who have been residing in Alabama for purposes other than to obtain an education, and who are able to demonstrate contacts with the State of Alabama indicating intent to remain in this state. Resident tuition status is determined by the University, with regard to Alabama law, and the policies of the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama.
