Continuing students apply for scholarships in the fall for the next academic year. The majority of UC Davis scholarships are limited to one academic year; therefore, students must reapply each year to be considered for scholarships on an annual basis.

Financial Aid Considerations

Since merit is our primary basis for awarding scholarships, students do not have to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to be considered. However, a small number of merit scholarships have a financial need for consideration. Financial need is only determined through the FAFSA or CADAA. As a result, we recommend that students apply for financial aid to maximize educational funding options.

Awarding Procedures

All UC Davis and outside agency/private scholarships are posted to the recipient’s UC Davis student account. When credited, the scholarship will first cover any unmet need; then, it will replace a student’s self-help expectation, followed by loans and work-study. Grants and other gift aid will be reduced last, if necessary.

The UCD Regents Scholars Society (or Davis RSS) warmly welcomes incoming Regents Scholars to the campus and to their scholarly community. The society provides academic, social, and professional opportunities that allow students to continue to tackle challenges and rise to the top of their class.

Regents Scholars at UC Davis have the option of joining the Regents Scholars Society as a way to network with other motivated students and gain extracurricular experience. While membership is not mandatory, the Davis RSS firmly believes it is the best way to meet, learn from, and have fun with other Regents Scholars.

Getting Involved

Most Regents Scholars join RSS as freshmen, and participation varies for older students, but all are welcome to join at any time in their academic careers. First-years are often the most numerous and enthusiastic of the RSS classes. The RSS officers take steps to ensure new members are included, and a large number of events cater specifically to freshmen and to prospective students.

Provost Award
