Discovering the Natural Beauty of UCF Arboretum Trails

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Arboretum offers a serene escape into Florida's diverse ecosystems. Open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day of the year, the Arboretum's natural areas and trails provide a unique opportunity to connect with nature, right on the university's campus. With miles of trails traversing various habitats, the UCF Arboretum is a hidden gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Essential Information for Visitors

Before embarking on your exploration, it's helpful to know some key details. The Arboretum and Sustainability office provides restroom facilities accessible to visitors from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. Note that these facilities are closed on weekends and major holidays. Parking is available in the gravel lot next to the office, and a valid parking permit is required.

To ensure a safe and respectful environment for all, certain regulations are in place. Possessing or consuming alcohol is prohibited on university grounds, including the natural and hiking areas. It is also strictly forbidden to pick or destroy any plant material. For visitors bringing dogs, they must be leashed at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. In line with UCF's commitment to health and well-being, the university maintains a smoke-free environment.

Beyond the Main Trails: A Deeper Dive

For those seeking a more extensive adventure, the UCF nature trails offer 14 miles of peaceful Florida habitat to explore. These trails traverse 20 unique habitat types, including basin swamps and marshes, scrubby flatwoods, xeric hammock, and wet prairie. The trails maps show 3 main natural areas that you can explore.

The northwest corner of campus features a loop around Lake Claire, guiding you through scrub and baygall communities. Just east of the Arboretum, where Scorpius Street intersects Gemini Blvd., you'll find the Timothy R. Newman nature pavilion. This is a great place to gather with a group and grill some food. From here, you can access a hike through Mesic and Scrubby Flatwoods. From the Arboretum trails, you can access the East Parcel trail system which is UCF’s most remote area.
