UCF College of Business Administration Advising Guide: Your Path to Success

The UCF College of Business is committed to helping students "Get to the ONE," striving to be the place where they can achieve their academic objectives and become the ones who get the job, start a business, make the sale, make a contribution, and mentor others. Established in 1968, the college offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and executive levels. A true culture of engagement sets the College apart from other business schools. With hundreds of events, activities, programs, organizations, and resources available, students can identify their passion, practice their pitch, network with industry leaders, jumpstart a career, or even launch a business before graduating. To help students navigate their academic journey, the College of Business provides a comprehensive advising system.

Academic Advising: A Collaborative Partnership

Academic Advising is a collaborative relationship between you and your advisor. Connecting with your academic advisor regularly is important to your success in college! Your advisor will assist you with your educational, career, and personal goals by helping you understand University policies and procedures, major requirements, and campus resources. Students who graduate from the college will be great communicators and collaborators, risk takers, data-driven decision makers and problem solvers. Our faculty and staff seek to provide our students with the education and experiences they need to succeed in today’s market. Whether in the classroom or delivering a talk at the Dean’s Speaker Series, faculty members are engaged in the latest research and program development. We offer programs that provide practical, hands-on learning and real-world experience. We push our students to get out of their comfort zones to try new things, communicate and collaborate with people who are different from them and take risks.

While academic advising is decentralized across the University, each college has a central advising office supported by professional or faculty advisors. Every undergraduate student in a declared major has a college advising office assignment. Each college has its own structure for how the professional or faculty advisors in the schools and departments will support students on their path to graduation. Students who are undeclared are assigned to work with an advisor in the Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC). Students who are exploring majors may also work with KMETC. Additional advising offices serve specific student populations, in conjunction with their assigned advising office.

Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC)

The Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC) advisors and coaches assist undeclared and major exploring undergraduate students with degree exploration, college skill building, and transition to degree-specific college advising.

Military and Veteran Success Center

The Military and Veteran Success Center is the first-stop shop for military students to include student veterans, active-duty, and military-connected students.

College of Business Academic Success Coaching Team

The College of Business’ Academic Success Coaching Team is the result of a partnership between the College and the UCF Division of Student Success and Wellbeing. This highly competent team is dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for College of Business students. The team works with internal and external partners to provide academic and college engagement resources and is the primary academic advising and success coaching team for business students.

Students will receive information and guidance through individual appointments, classes, workshops and collaborative partnerships with other student support teams and offices throughout the college and campus community. Students can take advantage of these opportunities as early as their new student orientation. We provide these opportunities through scheduled appointments, group advising and technology-based advising. You and your assigned Academic Success Coach will work together, from orientation to graduation, to establish your goals, design your academic plans and monitor your success. Advising is by appointment only, outside of posted walk-in dates.

Office of Professional Development (OPD)

The Office of Professional Development (OPD) provides academic advising, career coaching services and study abroad resources to students in the College of Business. Staffed by experienced Human Resource professionals, our Career Coaches help students develop their career plans from the day they start classes in the college. Our goal is to help students Get to the One - the one who gets the internship, the job or promotion. Dean Paul Jarley’s latest initiative - an online community exclusively for UCF business students and employers - is designed to connect our students with the businesses they want to work for.

Focusing on professional development, Career Coaches work with students to help them formulate a plan for building a successful career. We also have specialized coaches who act as a liaison between employers and business students for networking opportunities, internships and potential jobs. Each major has an assigned Career Coach.
