Navigating the UCF Academic Calendar: Accelerated Terms and Key Dates
The University of Central Florida (UCF) is committed to providing its students with flexible and efficient pathways to academic success. A key component of this commitment is the academic calendar, which outlines important dates, deadlines, and session schedules for each academic year. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the UCF academic calendar, with a focus on the newly introduced accelerated terms and other important aspects.
Introduction of Accelerated Terms
Beginning in the 2024-25 academic year, UCF is launching accelerated terms, offering students greater flexibility and the opportunity to expedite their degree completion. These accelerated sessions provide students with additional class scheduling options, allowing them to select courses that suit their schedules and earn their degrees in a timely fashion. UCF colleges will determine the courses they’ll offer in the accelerated sessions, if any.
You will be able to register for accelerated terms for the Summer and Fall 2024 semesters. UCF’s colleges have the option to offer courses during the accelerated semesters and will determine if they will offer any classes. Available courses will be listed in mySchedule Builder during the term’s registration period.

Structure and Function of the Academic Calendar Committee
The Academic Calendar Committee plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of the UCF academic calendar. This committee is responsible for ensuring that the calendar meets the needs of students, faculty, and staff, and that it aligns with the university's academic goals.
Membership and Representation
The committee comprises a diverse group of individuals representing various academic units and student interests. Specifically, the committee shall consist of one faculty member from each academic unit selected by the Committee on Committees and one student nominated by the president of the Student Government Association. To ensure balanced representation, no more than two of the faculty members of the committee shall hold a rank of assistant dean or higher.
In addition to faculty and student representatives, the committee also includes ex officio members who provide valuable insights and expertise. The vice president for Student Development and Enrollment Services or designee (ex officio) shall identify other ex officio members, making every effort to ensure that areas relating to the Academic Calendar are represented. The number of ex officio members shall not exceed the number of faculty members.
Leadership and Responsibilities
The committee is led by a chair and vice chair, who are faculty members elected annually by the membership. Meetings are scheduled by the chair of the committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending changes to the academic calendar, as well as addressing any issues or concerns related to its implementation.
Reporting and Accountability
To ensure transparency and accountability, the committee submits a brief annual report of the committees’ activities by the end of the second week of August each year. This report provides a summary of the committee's work and any recommendations for future improvements to the academic calendar.
