Hands-on Experience and Internships

In addition to your coursework, you’ll be required to complete two teaching internships. Throughout the program, you'll gain hands-on experience through multiple field experiences, culminating in a full-time student teaching internship. This immersive experience prepares you for a smooth transition into the teaching profession. Explore practicum that provides opportunity to apply knowledge of reading assessment and instruction in order to increase reading proficiency of struggling readers.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, prospective students generally need to meet certain academic criteria. These may include:

Have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA.
Completion of 60 eligible credits based on your degree pathway
Earning a bachelor's degree from a public Florida college or university.
Having earned college credit (such as AP, CLEP, military, or transfer).
An AA degree requires 24 credits of electives.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about best practices for elementary education and how to link research with your practice. Throughout your coursework, gain experiences in the foundations of education and acquire new knowledge and skills related to current research and instructional trends in basic subject matter areas. If you currently hold a temporary teaching certificate and have obtained a statement of eligibility, you may be accepted into the program and have the opportunity to include coursework required by the state of Florida to move to professional certification. However, the master’s in elementary education is specifically designed for elementary education teaching certification. The Elementary Education MEd program is relevant as a current classroom teacher due to learning best practice methods that are truly applicable to classroom use. I have been able to take what I am learning in my program and apply that to how I approach teaching.

Application deadlines for MEd program

The elementary education master’s degree at UCF accepts applications three times throughout the year: fall, spring and summer. You must apply online and submit all requested materials by the established deadline.
