A History of UCF Knights Football Gloves
The UCF Knights, representing the University of Central Florida, compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as part of the American Athletic Conference. Over the years, the team has celebrated numerous successful seasons, marked by appearances in the NCAA Division I-A playoffs and American Athletic Conference titles in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018. A significant milestone in UCF's football history was the undefeated 2017 season, which culminated in a claimed National Championship under the guidance of head coach George O'Leary. Prominent coaches who have shaped the team's trajectory include O'Leary (2004-2015) and Scott Frost (2016-2017). Despite challenges, the UCF Knights have consistently maintained a competitive edge within the American Athletic Conference and NCAA Division I, securing winning records and bowl game qualifications.
Evolution of the UCF Knights Logo
The Central Florida Knights' history extends back to the mid-1960s. The school's primary logo has undergone several iterations, each reflecting the changing times and culture of UCF.
UCF first adopted a shield as its primary logo in 1965 when it was founded as Florida Technological University (FTU). The shield featured an orange knight on horseback with two swords crossed behind him and FTU written across his chest plate.
In 1978, after becoming known simply as the University of Central Florida (UCF), they updated their official seal by adding more detail to represent aspects like knowledge or wisdom that are associated with higher education institutions such as universities or colleges. In addition, they changed up the colors from black & white outline drawing into full-color illustration featuring shades of blue & gold which is still used today. Over time, minor changes were made but overall it remains mostly unchanged since then.
The "Space Game" Uniforms: A Unique Tradition
Since 2017, the University of Central Florida Knights have annually unveiled their "Space Game" uniforms. These uniforms commemorate the university's origins and advocate for the Kennedy Space Center & Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's space force branch.

For instance, the Knights wore new uniforms when they took on new Big XII rival Arizona Wildcats on November 2nd. The uniforms recognize the University’s relationship with the nearby space exploration facilities.
The Mission VIII uniforms are inspired by NASA’s Artemis program, intended to reestablish human presence on the moon for the first time since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 and with a long-term goal of creating a permanent lunar base.
The helmet is black, with a white UCF decal, with light blue accents. The rear of the helmet has a light blue neck bumper with the words “Reach For The Stars,” (UCF’s motto) and the center “stripe” is made of the eight “Mission” logos. The jersey is mostly black, with a gradient pattern fading to white at the bottom. The gradient pattern is actually trying to represent moon dirt or regolith. Numbers are white, with a light blue drop shadow.
Each part of the uniform's design has a purpose, and for the most part, the descriptions are both apt and concise. The University has a true and special relationship with the Space Program and the Space Game uniforms are an attempt to bring that history and relationship to light.
