Programs Requiring Audition or Interview

It is important to note that most programs in the UCF School of Performing Arts require an audition or interview. Prospective students should carefully review the specific requirements for their program of interest.

B.M. Music Performance: A Path to a Performance Career

The B.M. Music Performance Track is designed for students dedicated to pursuing a career in music performance, encompassing opportunities ranging from symphonies to opera and beyond. The curriculum includes classes in music theory, piano, music technology, music history, recital performance, and conducting. Students also participate in their instrument's music studio, where they receive private and group lessons and attend weekly masterclasses.

What Sets UCF Music Apart?

The thriving entertainment industry in Orlando provides numerous opportunities for current students and graduates, setting UCF Music apart from other colleges and universities. B.M. Music Performance alumni have gone on to performance careers on Broadway productions (e.g., Stomp and Beauty and the Beast) and playing with renowned orchestras (e.g., the L.A. ).

Audition Options

  • Scheduled Audition: On-site auditions are typically held on Saturdays. The day begins in the Rehearsal Hall auditorium with prelude music performed by UCF students. A general meeting for parents and students follows at 9:00 AM, where attendees meet the professors and the School of Performing Arts Director. Students are then dismissed at 9:30 AM to warm up in the PAC-Music building, while parents remain in the Rehearsal Hall auditorium for a Q&A session with representatives from UCF Student Financial Services and UCF Admissions.
  • Digital Audition: If you are unable to attend an audition on one of the scheduled days, you may submit a digital audition by choosing “Digital Audition/Alternate Date” in the Preferred Audition Date field below. A UCF faculty member will contact you after reviewing your video to let you know whether you have been accepted into the program.

The Audition Experience

You will receive your actual audition time when you check in. Students will go to the studio room they have been assigned for audition ten minutes prior to their audition time and wait in the hallway for the professors to call their name, at which point they may enter and begin the audition. With the exception of piano and percussion, auditions usually are about 10 minutes long. Piano and percussion run about 20 minutes long. Auditions are private with the student only. Once the student has completed their audition, they are free to leave.

Post-Audition

Acceptance and non-acceptance letters will be sent out after completion of all the January and February audition dates.

Acceptance into the Department of Music is conditional upon completion of a successful audition. The audition also serves as a placement examination for accepted candidates.
