Navigating UCF Parking: A Comprehensive Guide

Navigating campus transportation at the University of Central Florida (UCF) can be simplified with a clear understanding of parking regulations, permit options, and transportation alternatives. This article provides a comprehensive overview of UCF parking, covering everything from virtual permits to gameday parking.

Virtual Parking Permits: Your License Plate is Key

To park on any UCF campus, a parking permit is required. UCF has transitioned to virtual parking permits for both students and employees.

Obtaining a Virtual Permit

Newcomers to campus must register their vehicle and purchase a virtual permit at parking.ucf.edu. Once purchased, your vehicle’s license plate serves as your parking permit. Remember to park nose-in, ensuring your license plate is visible from the drive lanes. License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology uses cameras mounted on enforcement vehicles to scan license plates and verify permits against the parking database. “Nose-in” parking is when your vehicle is parked with your license plate visible from the driving lane.

Managing Multiple Vehicles

Individuals can register a second vehicle to their account for an additional $15 fee. The second vehicle must be owned and registered to the original permit holder or within the same household. The second registration expires on the same date as the first permit. While virtual permits eliminate the need to transfer permits, only one vehicle per account can be parked on any UCF campus (Downtown, Health Sciences, Main, Research Park, and Rosen College) at a time.

Temporary Vehicle Changes

If your vehicle is undergoing repairs, you can temporarily change the vehicle’s tag number online. Each temporary change can last up to 14 calendar days, after which the system automatically reverts to the original vehicle information.

Permit Duration and Cost

Pricing for 150-day and 365-day permits varies based on the type of permit, such as Resident or Commuting Student. Annual virtual permits are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase, while 150-day permits are valid for 150 days from the purchase date.

Benefits of Virtual Permits

The virtual permitting system offers several advantages:

  • Convenience: No need to visit the Parking Office or stand in long lines.
  • Sustainability: Reduces waste by eliminating physical permits. About 250,000 physical permits were issued over the last five years, costing the university $245,000 annually.
  • Efficiency: LPR technology allows for better oversight and maintenance of the 21,000+ parking spaces across UCF properties.
  • Cost Savings: In some cases, purchasing a parking permit is more cost-effective than paying daily or hourly parking fees depending on your needs.

Parking Options for Different Users

UCF offers various parking options tailored to different needs:

Accessible Parking

Individuals with a valid state-issued disabled placard (blue) or temporary disabled placard (red) must purchase a UCF parking permit of the appropriate classification (Employee, Student, or Daily Visitor). With the appropriate permit, they may park in any available disabled parking space on campus. Disabled placards are issued by The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), not the university.

Commuting Students

Students commuting to the main campus must purchase a General/Student parking permit and park in designated General/Student lots and garages. Daily permits are available for $8 and are valid for 24 hours from the time of purchase. Virtual Daily parking permits are available $8.00 per day and are allowed in General (green) student spaces. After 5:30pm, virtual daily parking permits are allowed to park in Employee, Unreserved, or Student spaces.

Main Campus and Rosen Campus Residents

Students living on the main and Rosen campuses must park in designated spaces for their assigned housing community Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm. Vehicles parked in designated residential areas without a valid residential permit are subject to towing. On weekdays, campus residents are not allowed to park in student or employee spaces, including the general parking lots and garages, before 5:30 pm, and will be subject to parking citations. Residential parking permits “R”,” RL” and “KP” are restricted to their individual housing communities Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm. After 5:30pm and on weekends, residents may park in Employee or General green spaces or lots except 24 hours reserved or any other signed space. Please note residential permits are not interchangeable.

UnionWest Residents

Students residing at UCF Downtown’s UnionWest at Creative Village community must lease a space from the UnionWest garage, as it is the only overnight parking option on campus.

Metered and Mobile Payment Parking

Drivers can pay for parking at designated metered spaces using the ParkMobile app or by scanning the QR code on the signs. Street parking on East Plaza Drive and West Plaza Drive near the Addition Financial Arena is complimentary from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm daily, but drivers must pay to use the meters during other hours.

Transportation Alternatives

UCF offers several transportation alternatives to reduce reliance on personal vehicles:

UCF Shuttles

UCF buses and shuttles operate only when UCF is in session. For safety reasons, riders must show drivers their valid UCF ID before boarding.

Gameday Parking

Parking regulations change during football gamedays.

Gold Zone Parking

Gold Zone parking passes are strictly limited to 1 parking pass for every 5 season tickets purchased. Fans with digital parking are strongly encouraged to save their parking passes to their phone prior to gameday.

Campus Parking

Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in most other lots and garages on campus. Exceptions include all residential lots and the Libra Garage on Libra Drive, which are reserved at all times for students living on campus. Parking lots H2-H4 and B9 are now reserved for fans with Gold Zone permits. Parking lot B4, located at the intersection of Central Florida Boulevard and Gemini Boulevard South, is reserved for official university business. Parking is only authorized in designated parking lots and garages. Patrons who illegally park on or along any campus roadways or in other non-designated parking areas are subject to towing and fines.

Accessible Parking

Parking for guests with disabilities is available on the first level of Garage C with a proper DMV permit on a first-come, first-served basis. The individual who was issued the permit must be with the vehicle. Garage C is located near the intersection of Ken Dixon Way and Gemini Boulevard. A free shuttle for patrons with disabilities will be provided from Garage C to Acrisure Bounce House (Gate 13). Those shuttles will run from three (3) hours prior to kickoff until two (2) hours after kickoff. Throughout the game and postgame, shuttles will be available, picking up from Gate 13, to return patrons with disabilities to Garage C. Additional disabled parking spaces are available throughout the campus, with all spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis to any guest with a disability who displays an authorized DMV permit; however, no direct shuttle service will be available for these spaces.

Park and Ride

Park and Ride services will be available on all home game days from five hours before kickoff until two hours after the game ends. Fans should park at the Research Pavilion, located at 12424 Research Parkway in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent, to campus. Shuttles will transport fans from the Research Pavilion to the Research 1 bus loop (adjacent to Parking Garage C).

Shuttles

UCF will operate student shuttle buses for all normally serviced apartment complexes (except NorthView, Tivoli and Northgate due to their close proximity to the stadium) on each home football game day. The on-campus shuttle routes Pegasus Express will not be operating on game day. The shuttles will run from five hours prior to the start of the game until two hours after the game ends. A student shuttle will depart from the UCF Downtown Campus to the Lynx Transit Center three hours prior to kickoff for afternoon games and four hours before kickoff for evening games and then depart the main campus for the trip back to UCF Downtown four hours after kickoff. A student shuttle will depart from the Rosen College Campus to the Student Union three hours prior to kickoff for afternoon games and four hours before kickoff for evening games and then depart the main campus for the trip back to the Rosen College four hours after kickoff. No tailgating will be permitted at the Research Pavilion. The UCF Park and Ride shuttle buses will then transport fans from the Research Pavilion to the Research 1 Bus Stop (adjacent to garage C). Postgame, fans can return to the Research 1 Bus Stop for transportation via UCF shuttle buses back to Research Pavilion.
