Pi Beta Phi at UCF: Fostering Friendship, Leadership, and Lifelong Sisterhood

Introduction

Founded in 1867 by 12 courageous women, Pi Beta Phi has a long and rich history of enriching lives during collegiate years and beyond. The Florida Epsilon chapter at the University of Central Florida (UCF) continues this tradition by fostering meaningful relationships, providing a sense of belonging, and offering mutual support and guidance to its members. This article delves into the various aspects of the UCF Pi Beta Phi chapter, highlighting its values, activities, and contributions to the university community.

Core Values and Mission

Pi Beta Phi's mission is centered around promoting friendship, developing women of intellect and integrity, cultivating leadership potential, and enriching lives through community service. These values are at the heart of the Florida Epsilon chapter's activities and are reflected in the experiences of its members. The sorority strives to empower women to become Friends and Leaders for Life.

Recruitment and Sisterhood

Recruitment is a vital aspect of Pi Beta Phi, as it allows the chapter to extend its sisterhood and friendship to as many women as possible. The chapter actively seeks confident, diverse women who desire authentic friendships, seek opportunities to lead, and dream of making an impact in the world. The recruitment process provides prospective members with the opportunity to meet sisters and form personal bonds, creating a sense of home within the chapter. The next few weeks will be some of the most memorable of your time here at Pi Phi. With meeting sisters and forming stronger, personal bonds, we promise that this place has and will always be your home.

Panhellenic Council Involvement

The UCF Panhellenic Council plays a crucial role in governing the twelve National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities at UCF, including Pi Beta Phi. The Council comprises executive officers, chapter presidents, delegates, and junior delegates. Its responsibilities include uniting all chapters in the spirit of Greek unity, enforcing NPC guidelines, and overseeing the recruitment process. Panhellenic holds its primary recruitment process every August, the week before the fall semester begins, ensuring a structured and fair process for all participating sororities and potential new members. As individuals we strive for personal and intellectual growth. A value that pushes us to enrich our lives with knowledge and cultural experiences.

Philanthropic Initiatives

Pi Beta Phi Foundation is uniquely focused on helping Pi Beta Phi fulfill its mission - promoting friendship, developing women of intellect and integrity, cultivating leadership potential and enriching lives through community service. The chapter actively participates in philanthropic endeavors. Every September, the sisterhood celebrates Read > Lead > Achieve® Month, promoting literacy and a love of reading. In addition, the chapter engages in various fundraising and awareness events to support important causes. Are you interested in volunteering at our 2025 Fraternity Day of Service Signature Event? Chapter Activities and Events

The Florida Epsilon chapter hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the year to foster sisterhood, promote personal growth, and engage with the university community. These events include:

  • Big Little Reveal: A cherished tradition where new members are paired with older members, creating familial bonds within the chapter. The happiest time of the year, where our families become a little bigger.
  • Read>Lead>Achieve Month: A month-long celebration of literacy, often involving partnerships with other organizations to collect books for literacy foundations. We partnered with the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma and were able to collect a more than generous amount of books for the literacy foundation.
  • Zeta Lip Sync: Participation in Zeta Tau Alpha's annual philanthropy event, a dance competition to benefit breast cancer awareness. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, every October the women of Zeta Tau Alpha host their philanthropy event, Zeta Lip Sync, a dance competition to benefit the breast cancer cause and raise awareness. Each group that participates is the new member class from each chapter and our ladies rocked it! They picked the theme of “Candy” a fun twist on classic songs and were awarded 2nd place.
  • Father/Daughter Weekend: An event that allows members to share their sorority experience with their fathers, fostering family involvement and creating lasting memories. We attended an Orlando City Soccer Game last Saturday, where we watched our team dominate Montreal! Go dads! Go Soccer!

Summer Experiences and Personal Growth

As the Fall semester approaches, we the ladies of Pi Beta Phi are taking some time to reminisce the memories of our summer breaks. While some of us put on our study caps, intent on acing our summer classes, others took to the land, water, and sky to embark on some amazing traveling adventures across the globe. The chapter encourages members to pursue personal and intellectual growth through various experiences. This summer we achieved such insight. We had an alumni participate in a cross country bike ride to help those in need, a sister spent her summer in Cape Town, Africa interning, a group of friends take a road trip to over 10 states & study abroad excursions from London to Italy.

Organizational Conduct and Accountability

The University of Central Florida has established rules of conduct for registered student organizations, including fraternities and sororities. The UCF Golden Rule Student Handbook outlines potential sanctions for violations of these rules, including:

  • Educational Sanctions: Assignments such as reflective papers, seminars, community service, or interviews designed to educate members on responsible behavior. In conjunction with any sanction listed below, a registered student organization found to have been in violation of any of the Organizational Rules of Conduct will be assigned educational sanctions that are proportional to the violation such as, but not limited to: reflective/research papers, classes/seminars, community service, restitution, interviews, etc.
  • Probation: A period during which further violations could jeopardize the organization's status, potentially leading to restrictions on activities and privileges. A period of time during which any further violation of the Organizational Rules of Conduct puts the registered student organization’s status with the University in jeopardy. Restrictive conditions may also be imposed as part of disciplinary probation and will vary according to the severity of the offense. Restrictive conditions may include barring or limiting some or all of the organization’s activities and/or privileges (including, but not limited to: social activities; intramural competition; organizational competition; Homecoming; eligibility to receive any University award or honorary recognition; privilege to occupy a position of leadership or responsibility in any University registered student organization governing body, publication, or activity; or ability to represent the University in an official capacity or position).
  • Deferred Suspension: A serious sanction used for offenses that could warrant suspension, but where mitigating circumstances exist. Organizational deferred suspension is used for offenses found serious enough to warrant organizational suspension, but where the specific circumstances of the case mitigate the offense or for repeated offenses of a less serious nature.
  • Suspension: Loss of university recognition and/or registration for a specified period. While on organizational suspension, the registered student organization loses it University recognition and/or registration for a temporary period of time.
  • Interim Suspension: A temporary measure taken to protect the safety and well-being of the university community while an alleged violation is being investigated. Where deemed necessary to protect the safety and well-being of others, of the university, or of property, the Director of the OSRR or designee, upon notifying the VP of SSWB or designee, may take immediate action to resolve the situation by placing the registered student organization on interim suspension. Interim organizational suspension is not a sanction.

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) is responsible for reviewing alleged violations of the UCF Rules of Conduct through the Organization Conduct Review Process. In cases where the Inter/National organization has selected to remove the organization from the university. PLEASE NOTE: The organizations listed below are not currently recognized by the University. In some cases this is due to their voluntary disaffiliation from the institution and in some cases it is due to the National office revoking their recognition.
