May 21, 2024: Catcher Danny Neri, who came into this game with 4 home runs the entire season, hits a Big 12 Tournament record 3 home runs to help the Knights win the game and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive against Cincinnati, 6-5 in 11 innings.
Pitching Duels and Defensive Masterclasses
The March 7, 2012, game against Florida State exemplified the pitching prowess of both teams. Despite a strong pitching performance from UCF, the Knights fell short in a 1-0 loss. Junior lefty Chris Matulis relieved Hanson in the top of the sixth and entered in firing darts. Used exclusively as a starter so far in 2012, Matulis made his first relief appearance and sat down the Seminoles in order on two groundouts and a strikeout. Fellow junior Joe Rogers followed Matulis, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his longest effort of the season. His toughest at-bat came in the top of the ninth when he retired FSU’s James Ramsey on the 14th pitch.
