Sports Medicine at UCLA Health

UCLA Health offers expert orthopedic and sports medicine care, extending its services to top athletes. As the official medical partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, Sparks, and Chargers, as well as USA Basketball and UCLA Athletics, UCLA Health provides a high standard of care for all patients.

Key Highlights of the Sports Medicine Program:

  • Expertise that supports your recovery: Physicians with advanced training in sports medicine use advanced diagnostic techniques and targeted treatments, including ultrasound-guided injections.
  • Nonsurgical treatments: Many athletes recover without surgery through physical therapy, bracing, activity modification, or in-office procedures that improve blood flow. Guidance on nutrition and conditioning is also provided.
  • Surgical options: When surgery is necessary, trusted orthopedic surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to support a smoother recovery. Reconstructive procedures are performed for more serious injuries.
  • Injury prevention and performance optimization: Specialists analyze body movements to identify patterns that may increase injury risk, designing personalized plans to build strength and improve movement.
  • Convenience: Sports medicine services are available at locations across Southern California, including the Santa Monica Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic for urgent injuries.

Areas of Care in Sports Medicine

UCLA Health’s sports medicine services encompass diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. The sports medicine doctors offer:

  • Accurate diagnostics: The latest imaging techniques are used to see muscles, ligaments, and tendons in detail, ensuring precise diagnoses.
  • Injury prevention: Experienced primary care sports medicine physicians and physical therapists evaluate body movements and recommend ways to reduce stress on joints, providing personalized training routines.
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation: Sports medicine physical therapists create plans to maximize recovery, return to activities, and prevent future injuries.
  • Nonsurgical treatments: Medication, ultrasound-guided therapies, and injections are used for sports-related injuries that don’t require surgery.
