Test-Free Policy

UCLA is a test-free institution and will not consider ACT or SAT scores during the admission process. However, students who have excelled in AP or IB courses are encouraged to report their scores, as this can further demonstrate their academic abilities.

English Language Proficiency

Proficiency in English is crucial for success at UCLA. If all of your high school/secondary school education was completed in English, you are considered proficient and do not need to satisfy this requirement. However, if you've completed all or some high school or secondary school in a country where English was not the language of instruction, you will be required to demonstrate English proficiency if you have had less than 3 years of instruction in English. The most common exams we receive to demonstrate English proficiency are TOEFL, IELTS and DET. If admitted to UCLA, applicants must submit official, final academic records. These are defined as original documents issued by the institution-not photocopies-which bear the actual signature of the Registrar and the seal of the issuing institution. Instructions and deadlines for submission are included with official offers of admission. If your academic record cannot be replaced, obtain a properly certified copy. Keep the original for yourself!

Beyond Academics: Demonstrating Your Unique Qualities

Activities and Extracurricular Involvement

UCLA seeks students who are well-rounded and actively engaged in their communities. Students can add up to 20 activities on their UCLA application. But don’t panic! It’s perfectly acceptable not to fill up all 20 boxes. Abbreviate and quantify where possible, and only if it’s a universally known abbreviation. Think of these as your blended interview, résumé, and best story showcase. Meaningful involvement in extracurricular activities demonstrates leadership skills, self-awareness, and a commitment to service. These activities increase students’ spirit and skills and can lead them to lead a healthy lifestyle so they're refreshed all the time and focus more on studies.

Personal Insight Questions (PIQs)

As part of the UCLA application, students will be required to provide a 350-word response to four personal insight questions (PIQs). These essays provide an opportunity to showcase your personality, talents, and experiences. Choose incidents which describe your personality. Use a lot of examples to justify your answers.

The PIQs are designed to assess your fit for UCLA's campus culture and values. Competitive applicants should aim to weave in clarity of direction and genuine interest for UCLA and their intended major (if applicable) throughout every aspect of their application.

Financial Considerations

UCLA does not award scholarships or financial aid to undergraduate students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States. International students must prove that they have sufficient funds available to them to pay for their educational and living expenses. For example, students admitted to Fall Quarter 2026 will need a minimum of about $80,739 (with an additional $5,000 recommended for additional personal expenses, contingencies and summer expenses). This minimum amount usually grows each year. The estimated cost of attendance (i.e., tuition, room, board and fees) is $55294. (Approx. INR).

UCLA also requires that all international students on non-immigrant visas have adequate medical insurance during all periods of enrollment. Most students will be automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). This fee will appear on your tuition statement. You may waive this fee if you can prove you have equivalent private insurance.

At UCLA, an international student is defined as someone who requires an F-1 visa to study in the United States. If you need a visa, you must first submit your acceptance of our offer of admission. Almost all international students get an F-1 visa. Permanent Resident status (a "green card") is incompatible with applying for a student visa, and full-time MBA students must have either a valid green card or a valid student visa in order to enroll.
