UCLA Sports Camps: An Overview of Recreational Opportunities

UCLA Recreation Camps provide a wide range of recreational experiences designed to benefit the campus community. These programs cater to the health, wellness, development, and education of all participants and their families. UCLA is committed to social inclusion through shared recreational experiences, inspired by the principle that learning and playing together is a path to friendship and understanding. The camps welcome everyone, including children with and without disabilities, into the same programs. However, for the safety of all involved, programs are not designed for children who exhibit significant non-compliant, flight, or aggressive behaviors. The goal is to maintain an inclusive environment with the support and participation of the entire camp community.

Key Features of UCLA Recreation Camps

Inclusivity and Accessibility

UCLA Recreation Camps are dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared recreational experiences. The camps welcome everyone and include children with disabilities and children without disabilities in the same camp programs. The focus is on creating an environment where learning and playing together fosters friendship and understanding.

Safety and Behavioral Guidelines

While inclusivity is a priority, the safety of all staff and participants is paramount. Programs are not designed for children who have significant non-compliant, flight or aggressive behaviors. This ensures a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.

Financial Assistance and Scholarships

UCLA Recreation offers a limited amount of funding for camp scholarships to dependents of UCLA students, staff, and faculty. Need-based financial aid is available on a sliding scale, with UCLA Recreation making an effort to award all qualified families some level of assistance. UCLA Students seeking camp scholarships should also review information about the CCAMPIS Grant Program to determine their eligibility for funding and other childcare resources.

  1. Profile Setup: Ensure that your dependent(s) are added to your Recreation profile.
  2. Tier 3 Pricing: Verify that your tier 3 pricing is activated before proceeding with registration. Access ‘Memberships’ under your profile in the webstore to confirm.
  3. Payment: Customer purchases 10% of the total upfront with a credit card online to secure the dependent’s spot in the desired camp(s). All other employees must pay for their services in full at the time of purchase.
  4. Payroll Deductions: For eligible employees, the monthly deduction amount will be split 50% between each of the two bi-weekly paychecks that are PAID in that month (regardless of the actual pay period end date). Payroll deductions that fail to go through will be requested to pay in full by credit card or may result in the camper(s) being denied registration or dismissed from camp.

Cancellation and Refund Policies

All cancellation and transfer requests must be submitted via the Cancellation Request Form. Refunds are subject to the Camp Refund Policies. All refunds will be processed after final payroll deduction is complete.

In certain situations, refunds may be available:

  • Dismissal: There are times when the camp must dismiss a child due to psychological, emotional, or physical challenges or actions that preclude the child from participating safely or effectively in a group. If appropriate, this will result in a complete refund for the unused days.
  • COVID-related or Extended Illness: A partial refund may be available for COVID-related or extended illness of three or more consecutive program days. Documentation (a doctor's note, test result, etc) and written note from the parent or guardian explaining the situation must be received within eight working days from the first day of absence.

Adapting to Health Guidelines

UCLA Recreation Youth Programs is adapting the camp programs to reflect guidance and best practices from The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and the University.
