Its mission is to "expand and redefine the world for a diverse population of students, colleagues, and staff." Learning Abroad Center staff and University of Minnesota faculty and staff participate in numerous leadership opportunities and serve on the advisory boards of organizations who provide and/or support education abroad programs.
Diverse Program Options
Recognizing the diverse needs and interests of its student body, the Learning Abroad Center has developed a wide variety of program options. More than 200 programs in 60 countries have been developed to address the diverse needs of students. These programs span a multitude of disciplines and formats, ensuring that students can find an experience that aligns with their academic goals and personal aspirations. The Learning Abroad Center works with many departments, administrative offices, and other units within the University to determine appropriate study abroad options for each major and minor, and to help students earn credit toward their degree through study abroad.

Planning Your Experience Abroad
Embarking on a learning abroad journey requires careful planning and preparation. To ensure a smooth and successful experience, students should begin planning early for study abroad. Begin at least six months in advance to allow time for preparation and coordination.
Identifying Suitable Programs
The Learning Abroad Center provides resources to help students identify programs that align with their academic and professional goals. The programs below have been identified as possible programs for students looking to complete health science programs abroad based on the courses or experiences embedded in the program. Some of these programs have been completed by University of Minnesota Rochester students.

- Student Identities & Study Abroad: Offering support and resources for students with diverse identities. Student Identities & Study Abroad-Find support for your study abroad journey.
- Classroom Visits: Providing opportunities for students to learn about learning abroad options and financial aid. Request a Classroom Visit-A CFANS OIP staff member will speak visit your class to speak about study abroad and financial aid opportunities.
Financial Aid Opportunities
The Learning Abroad Center recognizes that financing a learning abroad experience can be a significant concern for students. To alleviate this burden, the center offers various scholarship opportunities. Scholarships are awarded during several terms throughout the academic year. Apply for the deadline that corresponds with the term you will be abroad. For programs with an on-campus component, the term you are registered for may be different than the term you will be abroad. Low-income and first-generation students are eligible for the CEHD Next Generation Global Engagement or Discovery awards as well as our general CEHD Study Abroad awards. To apply for these awards, complete the online application. Students may also receive scholarships from the University Learning Abroad Center, and you are encouraged to apply for both. The essay instructions below for the CEHD Study Abroad scholarship are substantially the same as the essay instructions for the Learning Abroad Center scholarships, which have the same deadline.
