Universal Mega Movie Parade: A Cinematic Celebration on Wheels
Universal Orlando Resort has upped its entertainment game with the debut of the Universal Mega Movie Parade. This spectacular parade brings beloved Universal stories to life on the streets of Universal Studios Florida, offering a vibrant and immersive experience for guests of all ages. The parade combines elaborate floats, a cast of nearly 100 performers, special effects, and memorable soundtracks to create a "must-see" experience.
A Tribute to Universal's Legacy
The Universal Mega Movie Parade pays homage to both classic cinema and modern franchises, showcasing a diverse range of films from "Back to the Future" to "Minions." The parade goes beyond the usual Universal characters, introducing theme park debuts for characters like Claire from "Jurassic World," the sheriff from "Jaws," and the children from "E.T."
Parade Highlights
The parade features 13 new floats, each meticulously designed to capture the essence of its respective film. Here's a closer look at some of the standout floats:
- Universal's Opening Float: The parade begins with a marquee float adorned with the Universal logo and LED screens flashing scenes from the films featured.
- Back to the Future: The "Back to the Future" float kicks off the themed floats with Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and the time-traveling DeLorean. The float includes iconic elements like the time circuit clock, Hill Valley Courthouse facade, and clever signage for the Twin Pines/Lone Pine Mall. Performers on futuristic one-wheel skateboards reminiscent of Marty's hoverboard add to the excitement.
- Sing: The "Sing" float brings the animated world of singing animals to life, with characters like Gunter, Rosita, and Johnny putting on a showstopping performance on a stage. Buster Moon is perched atop a moon, while Miss Crawly brings up the rear of the float.
- Minions: The "Minions" float pays tribute to the iconic yellow henchmen throughout history. The float features Minions in disco attire, boogieing down to classic tunes, surrounded by other Minions dressed as historical figures. Roller-skating disco dancers add to the fun.
- Kung Fu Panda: The "Kung Fu Panda" float transports guests to the Valley of Peace, where Po and Tigress are training. Performers showcase their kung fu moves, adding martial arts flair to the procession.
- Trolls: The "Trolls" float brings a vibrant and fun atmosphere with the colorful Caterbus, giant rainbows, and characters like Poppy, Branch, and Guy Diamond riding along. Stilt walkers and dancers add to the festive atmosphere.
- Ghostbusters: The "Ghostbusters" float is the tallest in the parade, featuring the colossal 16-foot Stay Puft Marshmallow Man towering over the Temple of Gozer. Our heroes from the Ghostbusters franchise are there to save the day, both aboard the float and walking alongside in the parade.
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: The "E.T." float recreates the iconic scene of Elliott and E.T. flying through the sky on bicycles. The float is enveloped in lush foliage, concealing E.T.'s spaceship within.
- JAWS: The "JAWS" segment of the parade makes a splash with a marching band leading the procession, their banner proclaiming "Welcome Amity 4th of July Celebration." The float features the ferocious shark himself, Bruce, capturing a dramatic moment where the boat that Quint stands on is torn in half with the waves frozen in a dramatic crest around him.
- Jurassic World: The "Jurassic World" segment features two floats, including a massive Tyrannosaurus rex towering over a crushed Jurassic Park jeep. The dinosaur moves and roars, with lifelike details like saliva dangling from its jaws.
Interactive Bubble Wands
To add to the excitement, guests can purchase interactive bubble wands inspired by some of the parade's films. These wands illuminate, blow bubbles, vibrate, and activate sounds when interacting with select floats. The bubble wands feature characters from "Trolls," "Jurassic World," and "Minions," creating custom interactions for guests to enjoy.
Creation and Development
The Universal Mega Movie Parade took nearly two years to create and develop, led by Universal's entertainment team. The process involved developing the parade storyline, designing and creating the floats, building the musical tracks, selecting lines for dialogue, recording voiceovers, designing the costumes, and adding lighting and effects.
