Presidential Scholarships: Recognizing Exceptional Academic Prowess
Each year, the Cincinnatus program bestows 20 Presidential Scholarships, each valued at $120,000, to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic prowess. These scholarships serve as a testament to the University of Cincinnati's commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence.
Century and University Scholarships: Merit-Based Awards

University of Cincinnati Alumni Scholarships are awarded to qualifying students who are lineal descendants (children or grandchildren) of University of Cincinnati graduates who are Loyal Bearcat or William Howard Taft donors (former Sustaining and Life Members) as well as to students from participating UCAA regional alumni network areas.
International Outreach Awards
International Outreach Awards are the primary scholarship for international undergraduate students. These are renewable awards that are applied to the non-resident surcharge (or “out of state”) portion of a student’s bill. There is no separate scholarship application. All international undergraduate applications are reviewed for Internation Outreach Award consideration.
State of Ohio STEMM Scholarships
The State of Ohio has awarded specialized scholarships to innovative STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) academic programs. To be considered for these awards offered in engineering, sciences, allied health, mathematics with a focus on actuarial science, medical sciences, or nursing, incoming first-year students must submit a completed admission application and required accompanying materials by November 1 of their senior year.
NEXT Innovation Scholars Program
The NEXT Innovation Scholars Program launched in 2021 as a signature UC program spearheaded by President Neville G Pinto and aligned with UC’s NEXT Lives Here strategic direction. Applications from incoming first year students are by invitation, based on the credentials and materials you submit with your online application. Finalists will be notified and invited to interview with the selection committee as part of the selection process.
Hoffman Honors Scholars Program
The Hoffman Honors Scholars Program (HHS) is a prestigious program designed to foster interdisciplinary learning, global citizenship, leadership, and community service. HHS scholarships are supported by a generous endowment from the estate of Hugh Hoffman, MBA ’63. To be considered for this award, incoming first-year students must submit a completed application and required accompanying materials by November 1 of their senior year. Students must be in one of these three colleges: The College Conservatory of Music, Carl H. Lindner College of Business, and The College of Arts and Sciences. Limited awards will be determined by the colleges of these academic disciplines.

Scholarship Renewal: Maintaining Eligibility
Cincinnatus, UC Global, and UC National Outreach awards are made to students with a limit of a 4-year equivalency (8 semesters) of eligibility consideration. Because students can only receive these scholarship funds when registered for classes, students in co-op programs generally remain eligible throughout their bachelor's degree. Sometimes scholars assume an activity will meet service requirements only to find out an activity does not meet the Cincinnatus definition.
Defining Acceptable Community Service
Cincinnatus is regarded as the ultimate model of selfless heroic deeds. The above description is the basis for defining scholarship renewal-acceptable community service. Further criteria used to differentiate scholarship service from volunteerism are that the service meets an unmet need and the provider of the service is not directly benefited. Students complete their required service hours between the first day of fall and last day of spring and are not limited to completing service within Cincinnati. Students are strongly encouraged to complete service hours off-campus. To avoid further tax penalties under IRS regulations, the university must not normally pay a wage for any on-campus service you provide. At the same time, sharing your talents in the course of normal activities such as tutoring a peer, mowing the neighbor's lawn, assisting at your place of worship, or babysitting are not acceptable. Service opportunities provide meaningful, personally rewarding and academically relevant ways for you to fulfill your service requirement.
Unacceptable Activities for Community Service
Fundraising that Benefits Self: Raising money to fund one’s own student organization or place of worship is not acceptable.
Assisting at Your Place of Worship: Singing in the choir, ushering, running the video/sound equipment, grounds keeping, and teaching classes or providing childcare are examples of activities that are normal volunteer and involvement efforts by a member.
Assisting Neighbors: Providing services to people that are generally at the same means is typically seen as volunteer work rather than service.
