The Student Legal Services Office, conveniently located in the Reitz Union, operates during regular business hours to serve the University of Florida student body. Recognizing the diverse needs and preferences of students, SLS offers consultations and assistance through various channels, including teleconference, Zoom, and in-person appointments. This multi-faceted approach ensures that students can access legal support in a manner that best suits their individual circumstances.

Core Services Provided

Student Legal Services provides university students with free legal advice and counseling. Full-time students have access to advice on a wide range of legal issues, including:

  • Landlord-Tenant Problems: Addressing disputes and legal matters arising from rental agreements.
  • Consumer Law: Providing guidance on consumer rights and protections.
  • Criminal Charges: Offering counsel and support in navigating the criminal justice system.

In some landlord-tenant and family law matters, Student Legal Services provides free representation in court in Alachua County. Certain restrictions and limitations may apply.

Appointment Information

Appointments are usually required for one-on-one counseling with the staff attorneys. Student Legal Services is located in room 368, J. Wayne Reitz Union.

Student Ambassador Program

Student Legal Services offers opportunities for students to get involved through its Student Ambassador program. Student Ambassadors with Student Legal Services are unpaid volunteers who help promote our office at a wide variety of events around campus. Applications are always open!
