Embarking on a university campus tour is a pivotal step for prospective students. Planning Your Visit

Registration and Scheduling

Due to capacity limits, the university is only accepting ONE registration per prospective student. If you register for a visit and need to change your visit to a different date, you must cancel your current registration before you can register for the new date. Scheduling your visit in advance is crucial. You can sign up for a campus visit online. Please be sure to have the student’s information prior to registering. Ensure you have the student’s information ready before registering. Each individual student must sign up separately online for the visit. This ensures an accurate count of students and guests.

Group Visits

USC Upstate offers group tours every week and our admissions counselors will help arrange yours to ensure your group gets the most out of the experience. School Groups and Community Based Organizations can click here for our group tour offerings. if you are planning a visit for their students. You may request your group visit online.

Individual and Family Visits

USC highly encourage family and guest participation. Of course! to enjoy your visit experience together. These programs are for individual/family registration only. If you are bringing a friend or sibling? All prospective students should be registered separately. We cannot guarantee space for guests who have not pre-registered.

Virtual Options

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Visitor Center are offering a number of virtual events and activities to bring USC to you. For those unable to visit in person, virtual tours are available. Your University Ambassador will present a virtual tour to you. Additionally, online and on-campus meetings with USC Upstate staff are available for answering questions about housing, financial aid, enrollment, or any other concern you might have.

Tour Options and Content

Standard Campus Tour

The standard tour provides a comprehensive overview of the university. Learn all about Gamecock life during a two-hour campus tour. Each tour begins with a 20-minute presentation covering the admissions process, financial aid, and scholarships. Then, guests spend 90-100 minutes exploring campus guided by a University Ambassador. These tours offer a blend of essential information and immersive exploration.

Express Campus Tour

For those with limited time, the Express Campus Tour offers a condensed experience. Guests spend 90-100 minutes exploring campus guided by a University Ambassador, but these events do not include a 20-minute presentation from Admissions.

Academic Department Presentations

Many of our academic departments offer information sessions, which provide a more in-depth look at specific programs. Please note, the sessions do not include a tour of campus. Sessions vary in content and typically last 45-90 minutes. These sessions provide a deep dive into specific programs but do not include a campus tour.

Visitor Center and Logistics

Location and Parking

The Visitor Center is located in McKissick Museum on the historic Horseshoe. All other visitors are welcome to park in the numerous metered visitor parking spaces across campus and on many of the streets that surround campus. Upon registering for a tour, you will find your parking pass and our Visitor Parking Guide. Be sure to print your parking pass prior to your visit. If you encounter any issues on campus, please notify the Visitor Center as early as possible at 803-777-0169.

Waitlist Policy

The Visitor Center offers waitlisting for general campus tours. Waitlist requests are prioritized for admitted students. If you request more than one campus tour in a 60-day period, any other waitlist requests you have will be canceled. Those with confirmed campus tours can request waitlisting for a different date. To amend your booking, contact the visitor center.

Preparing for Your Visit

What to Wear and Bring

Check the weather and dress appropriately. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as you'll be doing a lot of walking. Consider bringing an umbrella in case of rain.

Accommodations

Request accommodations when completing your visit registration. Due to liability, we do not offer overnight accommodations. Check out various hotels located close to campus.

What You'll See

The campus tour will cover the history of certain areas of campus. Your tour guide will show you where our bookstore is located on campus.

What You Won't See

Campus tours have limited access to academic buildings and our student union. Residence halls are unable to be shown at this time as part of our regular tour route. At this time, we are unable to show residence halls on our general campus tour. You can also virtually view our residence halls. We do not offer opportunities to sit in on a class.

Important Policies and Considerations

Tour Availability

Campus tours are not available on major holidays or weekends. We do not offer guided tours on major holidays or weekends. On a day when we do not offer guided tours, we recommend doing a self-guided tour. February, March, and April are our busiest months. Mondays and Fridays tend to be the busiest days of the week because of their proximity to the weekend.

Registration Deadlines

We release campus tours based on current student ambassador availability. We close our visit registration within one business day of a visit date. Sign up as soon as you can. If you miss the registration deadline, you can still visit campus and stop by the Visitor Center. You may also visit the day of and request to be added to our day of waitlist. Guest Count

Service Animals

Service animals must remain under control of their handler at all times. Emotional support or comfort animals are not allowed inside USC buildings.

Luggage Storage

We are not able to store any visitor luggage during tours. Store luggage at your hotel until the completion of your visit.

Athletic Tickets

Our office does not sell or give away any athletic tickets.

Life on Campus and in Columbia

Transportation

Airports

The closest airport to USC is the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), a 15-20 minute drive from campus. Another option is the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in Charlotte, NC, which is about two hours from our campus.

Shuttle Service

We do not offer a shuttle service to and from the Columbia airport. There are several taxi companies and car rental companies available. There is no shuttle service to and from the Charlotte airport; however, there is a shuttle company: Columbia Charlotte Shuttle. Car rental companies are available at the Charlotte airport as well.
