A History of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Baseball

The Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles baseball program has a rich history, marked by success at the NCAA Division II level and a recent transition to Division I. Representing the University of Southern Indiana, the program has garnered national attention with its championship wins and consistent appearances in the Division II College World Series.

A Legacy of Division II Dominance

The Screaming Eagles established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in NCAA Division II baseball. They captured the Division II Tournament national championship twice, in 2010 and 2014. These victories stand as testaments to the program's commitment to excellence and its ability to develop talented players and teams.

In addition to their national championships, Southern Indiana made several appearances in the Division II College World Series. The program reached the pinnacle of Division II baseball in 2007, 2016, and 2018, showcasing their consistent competitiveness on the national stage.

Transition to Division I

The Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles baseball program embarked on a new chapter in its history, transitioning to NCAA Division I beginning with the 2023 season. This move marked a significant step forward for the program, presenting new challenges and opportunities in a more competitive landscape.

In their inaugural Division I season, the Eagles posted a 17-38 record and finished 8th in the Ohio Valley Conference. Despite the challenges of transitioning to a higher level of competition, the team qualified for the conference tournament, securing their spot by a narrow margin over Lindenwood.

Home Field Advantage

The Screaming Eagles play their home games at the USI Baseball Field, a facility located on the south side of the university's campus. The field has a seating capacity of 600, providing a dedicated space for fans to cheer on the team. In addition to the traditional seating, the facility features a patio section with picnic tables along the third base line, offering spectators a more relaxed and social viewing experience.

Individual Achievements and Records

Throughout its history, the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles baseball program has been home to numerous talented players who have achieved individual success. Several players have been selected in the MLB Amateur Draft, including Jason Folz (1998) and Dave Schenk (1977-78).
