Navigating Employee Benefits at the University of Utah
The University of Utah offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, designed to support their health, well-being, and overall quality of life. Enrollment in these benefits is available to Hospitals and Clinics employees who work 20 hours or more per week in a regular or permanent status. A key aspect of these benefits is the commitment to fostering a culture of wellness through various programs and resources.
Eligibility and Enrollment
To be eligible for benefits, Hospitals and Clinics employees must work at least 20 hours per week in a regular or permanent position. The plan rates vary based on whether the employee is full-time (30 hours or more per week) or part-time (less than 30 hours per week). Eligible dependents include spouses (the person to whom the employee is legally married) and domestic partners.
The university is also obligated under the Affordable Care Act to provide the insurance carrier with the correct Social Security numbers for all enrolled individuals over one year of age.
WellU Program: A Personalized Wellness Journey
The WellU program is designed to inspire and empower employees to thrive by offering concierge wellness support, individualized services, and evidence-based programs. Health Risk Assessment (HRA)
The Osher Center team created a new Health Risk Assessment (HRA) to better serve the employee population and support their health goals. The HRA allows the Osher Team to make informed recommendations and provide additional, individualized support to employees who may be at higher risk. It is important to note that the health information provided will only be accessible to the Osher Center team. Completion of the HRA is required for participation in the WellU program, but participation in WellU is optional. Employees are welcome to engage with Osher programs and services even if they choose not to participate in WellU.
Steps to Engage in WellU
- Complete the HRA: This assessment helps tailor wellness resources to individual needs.
- Review Your Results PDF: After completing the HRA, you will receive a PDF with instant, individualized results and a WellU action plan.
- Identify Your WellU Route: Based on their health profile and eligibility, participants can choose between the Traditional Track for a self-guided experience or a Tailored Care Pathway for more support.
- Engage in Your First Activity & Follow Your Route: Begin making positive changes with support, resources, and guidance each step of the way.
WellU Routes: Traditional Track vs. Tailored Care Pathways
The WellU program offers two distinct routes: the Traditional Track and Tailored Care Pathways.
- Traditional Track: If you don’t qualify for a Tailored Care Pathway or you choose not to engage with your pathway recommendation, you are invited to participate in the Traditional Track that functions like the classic, self-guided version of WellU. Participants receive a personalized action plan in their HRA results and need to complete at least four health activities that align with their health goals. It is designed for those who prefer a self-directed approach to wellness. Participants receive a personalized action plan based on their HRA results and are required to complete at least four health activities aligned with their health goals. This track functions as a classic, self-guided version of WellU.
- Tailored Care Pathways: For employees that might benefit from increased support, the Tailored Care Pathways provide a more structured and supportive path for receiving WellU credit. They offer a more structured and supportive approach for receiving WellU credit. Your HRA results will inform you if you are eligible to engage in a Tailored Care Pathway. These pathways are designed for employees who may benefit from increased support. There are two tracks - Healthy Body and Healthy Mind. If you are recommended to participate in a Healthy Body Pathway, there are a variety of curated pathways to choose from. A Tailored Care Pathway provides structure and guidance to help maximize the efforts of your WellU experience. These pathways are curated based on the individual's HRA results and offer specific tracks, such as Healthy Body and Healthy Mind. Each pathway provides structure and guidance to help maximize the efforts of the WellU experience.
Once you’ve identified what route you will take through your WellU experience, you are ready to engage in your first activity. Then, follow your action plan throughout the year for successful completion of the WellU program.
Accessing Additional Services
After four low or no cost services, employees may continue to utilize their benefit and will pay the University price. Employees can participate in as many services as desired at the University price.
