The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) student portal, often referred to as MyNEVADA, is your central hub for managing all aspects of your academic life. From enrolling in classes to scheduling advising appointments, this guide will walk you through the essential functions of MyNEVADA and the Navigate app, ensuring a smooth and successful academic experience.

Accessing and Understanding MyNEVADA

Your journey begins with accessing MyNEVADA. This online portal serves as your gateway to essential academic resources and information.

Activating Your Account

Before you can access MyNEVADA, you need to activate your account through the Identity Portal. This process involves several steps:

  1. Enter your 10-digit numeric NSHE ID, your date of birth, and the human verification code presented to you.
  2. Create a unique password following the listed requirements.
  3. Provide your contact details for self-password recovery.
  4. Create a personal verification question using one of the choices available.
  5. Accept the Use Agreement.

Clearing Holds

Any holds on your record must be cleared before you can register for classes. All holds will appear in MyNEVADA under your Tasks tile. There are several types of holds you might encounter:

  • Academic holds: If you are a new student, in a specialized program, or under academic discipline, you may have an Academic Hold on your record.
  • Fee holds: If you have an outstanding financial obligation to the University (e.g., late fees, parking tickets, library fines, etc.), you may have a Fee Hold on your record.

Enrolling in Classes

Registering for classes is a crucial step in your academic journey. MyNEVADA simplifies this process, allowing you to search, select, and enroll in courses with ease.

Finding Your Enrollment Appointment

Registering for classes is based upon your standing at the University and your last name with enrollment appointments being randomly assigned within each standing level. Check MyNEVADA to find your individual enrollment appointment.

The Enrollment Process

Enrolling for classes is a lot like online shopping! The enrollment process involves several steps:

  1. After clicking on the "Enrollment" tile on your MyNevada Student Homepage, click on the "Class Search and Enroll" link from the left-hand menu. You will then be directed to your Enrollment Shopping Cart.
  2. Ensure that you have the correct term listed at the top.
  3. To access the search, use the "Search" option. In the search box, you can enter the subject and course number and then click the "Search" button/link. For example, for English 101, you could search for the course abbreviation (ENG) and the course number (101).
  4. To utilize other ways to search, use the "Additional Search Criteria" portion of this page.
  5. If you select the lecture portion of the course as your enrollment section, MyNEVADA will present you with the discussion/lab options associated with the lecture. If you select the discussion portion of the course as your enrollment section, it will show you the lecture option associated with the discussion/lab.
  6. Review the lecture time and ensure its one that will fit into your schedule.
  7. After selecting the course for enrollment, you'll have an opportunity to review the specific class information. This review includes information on course availability (e.g., open, full), course meetings, class details, enrollment numbers and notes (if any provided).
  8. The course will be added to your Shopping Cart. Review the information for the course is correct.
  9. Select Finish Enrolling to process your request for the classes listed.
  10. Check the Status column to see if your enrollment was successful or unsuccessful.

Dropping Classes

Life happens, and sometimes you need to adjust your course schedule. MyNEVADA allows you to drop classes with ease.

  1. To begin, click on the "Enrollment" tile on your MyNevada Student Homepage.
  2. Use the select column on the left hand side to indicate which courses you would like to drop.
  3. Once you have the classes that you would like to drop selected, click on the Drop Selected Classes button.

Important Note: A red X indicates a problem with your request. Common issues include trying to drop a co-requisite of another class that you are currently enrolled in without dropping the other course.
