AFRL/RI Internships are paid summer opportunities for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the freshman level through PhD level to work on-site with AFRL researchers. AFRL/RI partners with the Griffiss Institute to help execute the RI Internship Program. Typical majors are Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, and Physics. Travel and housing assistance are available for those traveling further than 50 miles.

Sensors Directorate Internship Program

The Sensors Directorate Internship Program is a research internship in a collaborative environment bringing together experts from the U. S. Air Force, universities and industries to address layered sensing modalities, artificial intelligence, aerospace components and sensor components, multispectral exploitation and detection, spectrum warfare and high performance computing to enhance Air Force capabilities. Palace Acquire (PAQ) Program

The Palace Acquire Program (PAQ) is a formal 2-3 year training and career development track for recent graduates. Bachelor of Science graduates undergo a three-year development and training program, which includes one year of graduate studies relating to selected STEM disciplines. Full-time, paid graduate studies are undertaken with full salary and federal employee benefits. During the PALACE Acquire developmental training, students work shoulder to shoulder with over 17,000 Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) scientists and engineers around the globe on challenging and rewarding projects.

Recent Graduates Program

The Recent Graduates Program targets recent graduates of trade and vocational schools, community colleges, universities, and other qualifying educational institutions or programs. To be eligible, applicants must apply within two years of degree or certificate completion. Veterans who, due to military service, were unable to apply for positions, will have up to two years from their release or discharge from active duty, not to exceed six years after degree and/or certificate completion. Successful applicants will be placed in a one-year career development program.

Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF)

For more than three decades, the Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF) has been the Federal government's premier leadership development program for advanced degree candidates. The Program focuses on developing a cadre of potential government leaders. Under the regulations proposed by OPM, the eligibility window for applicants is expanded, making the program more "student friendly" by aligning it with academic calendars.

COPPER CAP (COP) Internship Program

The COPPER CAP Program helps to prepare college graduates for contract specialist careers. Trainees work with professional contracting officers and receive formal and on-the-job training in all aspects of contract management, including requirements definition, solicitation preparation, price justification, negotiation and award, and contract administration.

Opportunities for USAF Academy Cadets and AFROTC

Specific programs exist for cadets at the USAF Academy and participants in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC).

AFROTC Educational Delay Program

For USAF Academy cadets interested in delaying their entrance on active duty to attend law school. Applicants must be in their senior year at USAFA and in good standing. Through this program officers are responsible for all expenses, to included tuition and fees, and they do not receive pay or allowances.
