Application Steps

Online Application

The first step is to fill out the online application for Valencia College. Applicants must submit an online Application for Admission. There, you would provide your basic personal and educational information. When you sign up-it’s our official means of communicating with you. Follow the prompts to create your account, including providing your date of birth. Use the Microsoft Authenticator App to complete login.

Application Fee

You'll be required to pay an application fee of $35 while submitting your application. Applicants must submit an online Application for Admission and pay a $35 non-refundable, non-transferable application fee.

Transcripts

High School Students

You should prepare to have your high school transcripts sent directly to Valencia College from your high school or official GED transcripts/scores. If you've completed your high school education through homeschooling, you'll have to provide a signed and dated home education affidavit.

Transfer Students

Request final, official transcripts from all colleges that you ever attended. Valencia College may require official transcripts from any previously attended institution, even if attendance was not disclosed on the application and regardless of whether transfer credit is being sought.

Official transcripts must be sent directly to Valencia College by the issuing institution or delivered in person in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution. Electronic transcript delivery is strongly encouraged to ensure timely receipt and processing.

Placement Assessment

If you're a first-time-in-college student, you may be required to take Florida's Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT). You may have to take part in the Placement Assessment, which helps the college determine your readiness for college-level work. While Valencia College doesn't require standardized test scores like the SAT or ACT for admission, they are used for placement into the appropriate English and Math courses. While this is not always necessary if you have SAT/ACT or other test scores that can be used, it's a common element in the admissions process.

Residency Affidavit

Florida residents will need to provide proof of residency to avail of the in-state tuition rate. Students are classified as non-Florida Residents at the time of admission/re-admission to the College.

Financial Aid

You should apply for financial aid even if you think you don’t qualify. Complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. Allow at least 6 weeks for your FAFSA to be processed. Deadline (deadlines can be found in our online Important Dates & Deadlines calendar). Students who apply after the Financial Aid Priority Application Deadline are not guaranteed to receive aid in time to pay for classes.

Degree-Seeking vs. Non-Degree-Seeking Applicants

Applicants are admitted as degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking based on their educational objectives and supporting documentation.

Non-Degree-Seeking Students

Non-degree-seeking applicants, including those enrolling for personal interest, transient study, teacher recertification, or job improvement, are not required to submit official academic transcripts unless needed to verify course prerequisites. Non-degree seeking students are generally not eligible for financial aid, except students enrolled in selected eligible certificate programs. Applicants who are no longer attending high school, including adults who did not complete a standard high school diploma or equivalent, may be admitted as non-degree-seeking, subject to placement and program restrictions as applicable.

Dual Enrollment

Students who are currently enrolled in high school and have not yet graduated may only enroll through Valencia College's Dual Enrollment program. Eligible middle and high school students may enroll in college credit courses while completing high school graduation requirements. Dual Enrollment admissions are governed by state law and local articulation agreements. Dual Enrollment students are classified as non-degree-seeking and may register only for approved coursework. Additional eligibility, placement, and documentation requirements apply.

International Students

Applicants seeking F-1 or other eligible nonimmigrant student status must meet federal visa requirements, demonstrate financial support, and satisfy any credential evaluation or English language proficiency standards established by the College. Admission is contingent upon immigration eligibility and compliance with federal regulations.

Transfer Credit

Valencia College awards semester credit. Transfer coursework must be at the level normally included within the first two years of college. Department of Education, students may submit a Transfer Coursework Reevaluation Request. Students are responsible for submitting all required documentation. Appeals are reviewed by an Academic Dean, in consultation with the Registrar's Office as appropriate, and decisions are final. accreditation bodies. Evaluations may be used for transfer credit consideration, fulfillment of course prerequisites, or waiver of the foreign language requirement.

General Education Program

The general education program is integral to the Associate in Arts degree. It includes courses that provide broad foundational knowledge to help students develop intellectual skills and habits that enable them to become more effective and lifelong learners. General Education Standards

  • Communication: Communication courses afford students the ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to write clearly and engage in public speaking.
  • Humanities: Humanities courses afford students the ability to think critically through the mastering of subjects concerned with human culture, especially literature, history, art, music, and philosophy, and must include selections from the Western canon.
  • Social Science: Social science courses afford students an understanding of the basic social and behavioral science concepts and principles used in the analysis of behavior and past and present social, political, and economic issues.
  • Natural Science: Natural science courses afford students the ability to critically examine and evaluate the principles of the scientific method, model construction, and use the scientific method to explain natural experiences and phenomena.
  • Mathematics: Mathematics courses afford students a mastery of foundational mathematical and computation models and methods by applying such models and methods in problem solving.

General Education Program Requirements for the Associate in Arts Degree (36 Credits)

The general education program is 36 semester credits and serves as the core of the curriculum. The 36 credits are selected from five core areas of academic courses offered at Valencia as listed below. Core courses are established by the State Board of Education to create a common general education experience across all public institutions. Core courses must be offered and accepted by every Florida College System (FCS) and State University System (SUS) institution. Institutional courses are established by each college and university to support their general education program outcomes. Institutional courses, combined with Core courses beyond the minimum required for general education, account for the remaining 12 of the 36 general education program credits.

Any student who successfully completes a natural science course for which one of the general education core course options in natural science is an immediate prerequisite shall be considered to have completed the natural science core. Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement

Valencia’s college-level foreign language proficiency requirement can be satisfied in one of the following ways:

High School Coursework

Completion of two years of instruction in the same foreign language at the high school level, with passing grades each year, as documented on an official high school transcript.

College-Level Coursework

Successful completion, with a grade of C or higher, of one of the approved course sequences in a single foreign language, or its equivalent, in the list below.
