Southern California College etched its name in baseball history in 1994 when Ila Borders took the mound for VU, becoming the first female pitcher to play in an NCAA or NAIA college game. The 1985 and 1987 Seasons: District III Championships and NAIA World Series Appearance

The 1985 season culminated in a remarkable fourth-place finish at the NAIA Baseball World Series, marking one of the program's most significant accomplishments.
The 1987 Season: A Player-Led Triumph
Southern California College faced an unexpected challenge near the conclusion of the 1987 season when its coach was relieved of his duties. In an unconventional move, the team entrusted redshirt pitcher Mark Deushane with the responsibility of leading the team as coach for the remainder of the season. Deushane's leadership proved to be an inspiration, as the team rallied to win the District 3 tournament and secure a commendable third-place finish in the Area tournament.

Transition to Vanguard University and Continued Success
In 1999, Southern California College attained university status and officially became Vanguard University of Southern California. 2002 Season: Region II Championship and Near World Series Berth
The 2002 season was another banner year for Vanguard baseball. The team clinched the Region II Baseball Tournament Championship and advanced to the NAIA Super Regionals. That year, VU's 1st-Team All-American, Chad Chop, was selected in the 6th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Montreal Expos.
2015: NAIA World Series Return
The Vanguard baseball program reached another pinnacle in 2015, making its second appearance at the NAIA World Series. This achievement underscored the program's sustained excellence and its ability to compete with the nation's top NAIA baseball programs.
Alumni Success in the Major Leagues
Vanguard University baseball has a proud tradition of developing players who have gone on to achieve success at the professional level. Tim Fortugno and Jim Dedrick, both Vanguard baseball alumni, ascended through the ranks to become major league pitchers, representing the program with distinction. In addition to Fortugno and Dedrick, there have been three former Vanguard University of Southern California ballplayers who made it to the majors.
Transition to NCAA Division II
In July 2023, Vanguard University announced its plans to join the NCAA Division II and compete in the Pacific West Conference, beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year.
