Accreditation: A Mark of Quality

Accreditation serves as a crucial indicator of an institution's quality and commitment to educational standards. Walden University has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1990. Being accredited by the HLC validates that Walden lives its mission, operates with integrity, offers programs that focus on student learning, hires academically qualified faculty, and provides the resources and support necessary for students to succeed. The Tempo Learning® platform is also approved by HLC for each program where it is offered.

Student Satisfaction and Recognition

Walden University's commitment to quality education and student support is reflected in its student satisfaction rates. Nearly nine out of 10 Walden students who responded to the 2022 survey are satisfied or very satisfied with Walden. The Distance Learning Association (USDLA) recognized Walden with silver awards in three categories: innovation, research, and training. The award-winning initiatives are Doctoral Degree Coach®; research into inclusive online learning models; and faculty orientation, training, development, and support.

PhD Program Structure and Requirements

Walden's PhD programs are designed to provide students with a rigorous and comprehensive educational experience. Curricula also include interactive multimedia simulations woven into a number of programs. These programs incorporate a structured approach to research and dissertation completion, ensuring students are well-prepared to contribute to their respective fields.

Foundation Research Sequence

The Foundation Research Sequence is a critical component of Walden's PhD programs. These courses are dependent upon the particular specialization. Courses comprising the Foundation Research Sequence are conducted online and require weekly readings, participation in discussions, and assignment completion. Course instructors guide discussions and evaluate discussion and application assignments. RSCH 8110 must be completed prior to Residency 2 of the academic residencies.

Advanced Research Courses

All PhD students are required to complete one advanced-level research course that mirrors the methodology of their intended dissertations. The university offers three advanced courses; individual programs may have other advanced options.
