Application Process and Requirements
Applying to Walden University involves several key steps:
Complete an online profile: Open your online application and begin filling in your information. The online application is designed with busy professionals in mind and can typically be filled out fairly quickly.
Gather supportive documents: Schools require a written statement as part of the admission process that explains why you’d like to pursue a certain field of study at that particular institution.

Submit your history: Provide your employment and personal history as requested within the portal. Some programs may also require a current resume or CV. Request your transcripts: Request official transcripts from every college or university you have previously attended. Unofficial transcripts will be reviewed for eligibility of credit transfer, but you must submit official transcripts for financial aid to be processed, if admitted to the university. While specific requirements vary by program, Walden looks for a core set of qualifications to ensure every student is prepared for the rigors of online learning. At a high level, the general requirements include:
- Proof of previous education: You must have earned the appropriate prerequisite degree (e.g., a high school diploma/GED for bachelor's, or a bachelor’s degree for master’s level) from an accredited institution.
- Official transcripts: When you apply to Walden University, you must submit official documents from all previously attended colleges and universities.

- Access to technology: Since all programs are online, you must have a computer and internet access that meet the university’s technical standards.
There’s no fee to apply to Walden programs. Additionally, Walden does not require SAT, ACT, GRE, or GMAT scores.

Transfer Credits
Yes, you can transfer credits from other institutions to Walden. For transfer of credit into undergraduate programs, you must have earned credit:

- At any time in the past, with the exception of selected technology courses.
- With a posted grade of a C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher.
- That aligns with applicable program or degree requirements.
For transfer of credit into graduate programs, you must have earned credit:
- Within 10 years of enrolling in your Walden program.
- With a posted grade of a B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher.
- That aligns with applicable program or degree requirements.
There may be additional program-specific transfer of credit criteria. Your Enrollment Specialist can start the process for a preliminary evaluation of transfer of credit. You will need to provide your transcripts, and your Enrollment Specialist can also help you explore other potential sources of academic credit, such as military training or professional experience or credentials.
Financial Aid
Applying for federal financial assistance is a two-part process consisting of (1) completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and notification of eligibility, and (2) acceptance of the financial aid offer and completion of the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and entrance counseling. This process takes approximately two to four weeks from the initial application through the receipt of funds. New students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA at the same time they are applying for admission. Continuing students are required to complete a renewal FAFSA for each award year they are enrolled.
Fill out the 2024-2025 FAFSA if you are starting your program on or after May 27, 2024. Fill out the 2025-2026 FAFSA if you are starting your program on or after 5/26/2025. Upon receipt of your FAFSA, the FAFSA Processing System will analyze your application and forward a FAFSA Submission Summary (formerly known as Student Air Report) to you and Walden’s Office of Financial Aid within three to five business days. Read the report carefully as it contains important information about your eligibility for aid.
Tuition Reductions and Savings
Walden University offers several tuition reduction and savings opportunities:
Armed Forces and Spouses: Armed Forces who enroll in programs eligible for the Believe & Achieve Scholarship. This tuition reduction is also available if you are a spouse of a service member or veteran.
Alumni Referral: New students who are referred by Walden alumni can save receive a 5% tuition reduction combined with Walden’s Believe & Achieve Scholarship® when they enroll in a program eligible for the Believe & Achieve Scholarship. This tuition benefit is available for start dates February 24, 2025, and after.
Returning Alumni: Walden alumni who have completed a degree or certificate program can save 25% on tuition over the lifetime of their program when they return for their next degree or certificate program and start classes August 25, 2025, and after.
Family Tuition Reduction: Save 25% on tuition over the lifetime of your degree program (excluding certificates) if you are the spouse, parent, or child of an enrolled Walden University student and start classes on or after February 24, 2025.
Family Start Savings: Save 5% on tuition if you and a family member§ start a new Walden program on the same start date. Family members§ who enroll in a program eligible for the Believe & Achieve Scholarship will receive a Walden Family Start Savings tuition reduction of 5% for the life of the current program.
Students must contact their Enrollment Specialist to learn more or apply. Must be newly reserved students entering their first term at Walden and demonstrate a need or other extenuating life circumstances to be eligible.
