Understanding Refunds

WMU provides a refund schedule for students who withdraw from courses. The refund percentage depends on the date of withdrawal:

100% Refund: Available if you withdraw on or before the last day to drop/add.
90% Refund (Complete Withdrawal): Available for a limited time after the drop/add period.
50% Refund (Partial Withdrawal): Available for a limited time after the 90% refund period.
50% Refund (Complete Withdrawal): Available for a specific period.
25% Refund (Complete Withdrawal): Available for a specific period.

Enrollment Verification and Other Student Services at WMed

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) has specific policies and procedures related to enrollment, student records, and financial matters.

E-Consent: WMed students complete an E-Consent form upon admission, as required by the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-Sign Act).
Enrollment Verification: Enrollment Verification serves as documentation of a student's enrollment status at WMed for a particular term/semester.
Letters of Good Standing: Letters of Good Standing are frequently requested to accompany scholarship, Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO), etc.
Reporting to NSLDS: Enrollment statuses are reported to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) to confirm full time, half time, or less than half time enrollment, and to report changes due to withdrawal, leave of absence, dismissal or graduation. Personal identifiable information for student loan borrowers including program of study, anticipated graduation date, and contact information, is also reported.
Grade Submission: Grades are submitted four weeks after each course ends for MD programs and one week after each course ends for MS programs.
Health Insurance: The health insurance must meet the Essential Benefits requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Jury Duty Excusal: WMed students who receive a Jury Summons with an appearance date falling within their current term/semester of study may request to have their jury duty excused via the Office of the Registrar.
Name Change: In order to process a name change, a driverâs license, social security card AND either a marriage license, divorce degree or a court order that reflects the new name are necessary along with a written request.
Tuition Balance: Students are responsible for any unpaid balance on their account. Any past-due tuition balance may result in a hold being placed on a student's account and deregistration from current and future courses.
Third Party Sponsorship: Students who are sponsored by a third party provider need to make necessary arrangements with the university.

WMed Curriculum and Advanced Placement

WMedâs curriculum for the degree of Doctor of Medicine is an integrated curriculum, making it difficult to accommodate advanced placement of medical students from another medical school into this curriculum. Transfer of up to twelve (12) individual credits toward elective requirements of the degree program may be considered upon request.

Tuition remission is an employee benefit provided to the spouse, qualified same sex domestic partner, and dependent children of full-time employed faculty and staff of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed).
