A History of Football at Missouri Western University
The Missouri Western Griffons football program represents Missouri Western State University in college football. The program competes in the Division II level (D-II) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Missouri Western's football program dates back to 1970. Since their inaugural season, Missouri Western has played in 595 games, and as of the current season, it has an all-time record of 323 wins, 263 losses, 9 ties.
Early Years and Conference Affiliations
From 1970 to 1975, Missouri Western competed as a NAIA independent, unaffiliated with a conference. In 1976, it joined the Central States Intercollegiate Conference. In 1989, Missouri Western became a member of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which was renamed the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), and has remained in the league. The Griffons won two conference championships, in 2003 and 2012.

Missouri Western's home games are played at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Griffons have played their home games at Spratt Stadium since 1979.
